I received the 34265-SFE-003 part and it is a drop-in replacement for the trunk light. Attached are photos of the connection and replacement.

 

Swapping out the light is a great idea. Something dog people do when crating out of our cars at all day events (with the tailgate open) is put a ventlock into the latch. This tricks the car into thinking the vehicle is closed. The right size carabiner also works in a pinch. The function of a ventlock is to be able to lock the car with the hatch ajar for airflow.
