CVT Help desperately needed
CVT Help desperately needed
I need your help Fitfreaks! My wife's 15 EX CVT has suffered a cvt issue resulting in a PO793 code. This comes back as an intermediate shaft speed sensor, poor or
no communication. All of this is pretty elementary, HOWEVER my Googling reveals no sensor by that name in any available diagram for this trans! I have found three sensors on Bernardiparts.com. First, a "CVT speed sensor" Second, a "CVT drive pulley speed sensor, and Third, a Torque converter turbine speed sensor. Which of these is likely to be the " intermediate shaft sensor"? Or is it none of the above? Please help me folks, I am an above average driveway wrencher who simply cannot afford to get run through the "You need a new transmission" ringer.

Broke down and had it towed to the local Honda dealer, who won't be able to diagnose it officially until the 15th! Ill update this thread when I know more. Car would not go into gear this afternoon when the flatbed operator tried to drive it onto his truck. Starts and idles fine, but no reverse and no drive.
Is the car completely stock mechanically?
Any history of trans fluid changes?
Original owner?
I wouldn’t expect trans failure at that mileage even though CVT not the stoutest of transmissions……though Honda is known to make a fairly dependable and quality CVT.
Car is 100% bone stock. We bought it used at about 85,000 miles a little less than two years ago. I have maintained it well in that time replaced front rotors and pads and performed regular oil changes when the MM gets to 30%. The car was NOT well cared for by its previous owners, shows cosmetic signs of neglect lots of nicks scratches and broken interior trim. I have no idea if the trans fluid was ever changed , and had not done it myself. I strongly believe that fact is what led to the belt failure. The dealer has quoted me a total of 5600 out the door for a Honda Remanufactured trans (only the case itself is used, the guts are entirely new) which carries a 3\36 warranty from date of install. This is the first vehicle with a CVT I have owned and I'm ashamed to admit I had no idea that they required regular fluid changes to ensure a long life. I'm considering this a hideously expensive lesson learned, but I still stand by belief that Honda makes the best cars available for folks like myself that accumulate 50k or more miles a year

Bought a 2015 fit lx when it was brand new. Transmission went in 2020 with like 55k miles, out of warranty. Honda dealer told me to call Honda. They covered it. Watching a Scotty Kilmer vid and he mentions 2015 fits and civics had problem transmissions.
I seriously wish Honda didn’t join the masses and go the CVT route but unfortunately they couldn’t resist the MPG gains that a CVT brings. They just aren’t as stout as a conventional auto no matter how you slice it.
