I wanted to change my tail lights but reviews were not great on a lot of them and I always want to keep the brightest lights possible. I decided to buy these on black Friday from iJDMtoy for $85 shipped https://store.ijdmtoy.com/products/led-rear-fog-tail-light-72-001-red.
There wasn't a go to guide on YouTube or on here. I mostly picked and chose from multiple sources to figure it all out.
I have a 18 EX-L and everything lined up no problem. I wasn't able to transfer the plastic screws that help keep the lights/ reflectors in place. Also I didn't have a hole and read others had to drill. I did have that stay put hole with a plastic grommet which I cut and fed the wires through. Also want to note that someone advised to use tape to make sure the rubber stays put when you put the lights in and tape your spoiler so you don't scratch it.
I used one of these fish tape things from home depot to try to fish both sides. I quickly realized I could not get through from the right side to the top. So I used someone's guide on here to run everything along the wires across the trunk hatch and then tap the left pillar light wire.
Wire guide:
white = teal (3rd brake light power)
red = gray (license plate frame lights power)
black = ground
at the top left of the hatch is wiring connecting the hatch to the car. You can find everything there. I found an aftermarket relay attached to my 3rd brake light, I'm assuming so previous owner could watch videos while driving?
This is how it ended up looking when connected to the left pillar light. I got rid of the relay and I just connected the white wire with the teal wires.
The right pillar light was a while different story. I ran the wire along the already installed wiring and split open the wiring so I could ground it on a screw bracket.
and then used the leftover wiring protection on the wires until I got to the license plate frame lights and tapped the license plate frame light harness' gray wire to the red wire.
And then ran the wire along until I could tap the left pillar light's wiring. Opened it up and tapped the white to the white.
I used zip tires and kept the wiring behind the existing wiring so it had some protection.
Everything works and I tucked everything back in at the top of the hatch.
Excuse my dirty car, we had rain and I haven't washed my car. Also I replaced the rear garnish with the black instead of the chrome.
Brakes engaged
I hope this helps someone who is looking for guidance.
