Replacing PCV valve tips?

I have a 2015 with the Earth Dreams engine and I am trying to replace the PCV valve. Are there any tips or tricks on getting access to it?

I got to mine with some extensions and a swivel. Didn't take too long.

Changed the PCV on mine today. I pulled the wiring harness box away from the block, which made access slightly easier. Remove one 10mm bolt on the upper left of the plastic housing and then pull the right side of the plastic box toward the front of the car and it slides off of a mounting post. Take care to not pull on the bundled wires. This gave me enough room to use a deep well 17mm socket. Not too bad of a job.

I had to give up on replacing the PCV the 1st time I tried because the area is so small and tight to get into without the proper tools. And even with the proper tools it it's still hard.

But after I finally did it and replaced it. I think the car runs better after too. It's been 90,000 Miles so it was time to change it. haha

I have some hints and tips.

1. You don't need to but it's a good idea to jack up the car front end so that the car is tilted a big higher to reach into the space where the PCV is located.

2. You don't need to but it's a good idea to pull out all the little electrical wire out on the harness connected to the engine. It's kind of hard but there are 3 electrical wires that have a tab, you have to push on and hold onto the tab and then pull it off. Way easier said then done! It took forever, but I got them off! There also a ground wire I unscrew with a 10MM screw. I take these off because I won't damage them when I stick my socket in and turn. (Note: Putting them back on is even harder because you can't see the connectors and going in blind by feel.)

3. You should move the harness itself off its mount on the right and take off the 10MM screw off on the left too. (Note: I didn't install the harness back onto its mount. Can't figure it out.)

4. Get yourself a deep socket 17MM. A regular 17mm won't go over the PCV steam because it's too short for it.

5. Get yourself a flexible wrench. Man there's just no way you can turn the PCV with a regular wrench at a 90 degree. You will either be bumping against the harness and/or bumping against the manifold cover. That flex is a life saver!

6. You don't need to, but a lot of swearing until PCV unscrews!?!?

7. Pray the crush washer doesn't slip off the PCV screw. Mine slip off and fell down into the Starter area. Man it was super hard to get the washer out of there! In theory, the washer should just come down by itself after driving for a while, but no guarantees it would do that and could just be rattling around the Starter forever. I have OCD, so I had to get it out myself. lol

Hope this helps someone.

just did mine , to make it a little easier i unbolted the hood latch mechanism so i could move it over to the left , also snipped off the hose retainer on the top of the harness box since it was digging into the back of my hand as i was trying to get the new valve started . . with the hood latch out of the way there was less of an angle for the joint on the 17mm socket , i used a semi deep socket . fortunately , the crush washer stayed put on the mounting plate when i took the valve off . i think it will be alright reusing it .
getting the thread started was the hard part . i'd say , of all the really tight access jobs i've tackled , that one made the top 10 i think

follow up - i ran the whole thing by my brother , a retired mechanic . told how hard it was getting the new valve in . he told me , he would just stuck a lenght of hose on the end and used that to snake it into it's threaded hole . live and learn
