Noise just prior to start up.

Anybody able to identify this initial noise and the origin? The second grind is the VTC actuator. It’s more pronounced in cold weather. Sounds like it’s coming from the dashboard.

It's the unlocking of the steering lock mechanism (security). Don't worry about it.
Sometimes (depends on steering position/lock, I think), you can even see the wheel move, as it unlocks.

Thanks for the video, by the way. I never heard the VTC actuator sound before. Kind of nice to know what it sounds like.
My 2019 doesn't have any issues like that (yet?). The pre-start clipper buzz is of course there. Was always there since new.

Thanks. Makes me feel better. Starting to have all sorts of small issues that are known in the 2015. As for the VTC, make sure you change the oil more often than the maintenance minder tells you at 15%. Dealer blamed me for not changing the oil often enough. Even though the TSB clearly states the VTC is defective. I think it was fixed in later models.
