Fron wheel stud replacement

Does anyone know if its possible to replace a broken wheel stud on the gk5, a mechanic shop quoted me $912 before tax for a hub and bearing claiming that the studs are "non interchangeable" a tire shop i had replace my tires a few months ago cross threaded my lug nut and pushed the stud out of the hub.

Stripped Wheel Lug.

Go to another indie mechanic or your local Honda Dealer.

I'm probably going to i just wanted to see if anyone had repalced a stud on their own before because ive heard different claims like the hub needs to be pulled out in order to do it, others say it doesnt, just trying to get to the bottom of that because if i can replace it myself i would much rather do that.

Wheel stud replacement on Fits is a nigjhtmare.

@woof No offense, Woofy, but the guy in that video doesn't know what he's doing. If YouTube is your friend, there has got to be a better friend out there somewhere.

It's not an Academy award winning film, but beggars can't be choosers. The one thing I didn't do is look for something under the Jazz name. Might be something better there and a Jazz is mostly identical to the Fit.

He had to cut the shield behind behind the rotor and bend it back to allow for the stud to fit through. Else, you basically need to open up a lot more in order to get the stud in if you don't want to cut the shield.

lol you have to choose your friends wisely,,,,thats INSANE you need cut the shield

im always super careful with the studs, neversieze, always hand tight first few threads,if it doesn't thread, swapping around lug nuts usually makes it work...NEVER take to shop...no one has ever touched my nuts but me

I feel you, bro. I don't let anybody use power tools on my nuts.

I got sloppy on a tire rotation recently, and I messed up the threads on a stud. Really pissed myself off. I'm going to try a thread chaser on it.

Changing out a wheel stud on Fits requires removing the wheel hub, not cutting or grinding anything. The problem with removing the hub, as I understand it, is that the axle inevitably slips out of place, and you have to spend an hour fiddling and swearing trying to get it back in, or give up on secular life and join a monastery.

This video (post 4) is on a GD (1st gen) and this does NOT WORK on a GE (2009-2014) and maybe GK. The size of the hubs and knuck must be different - there is no way to slide a stud out or in without removing the hub on a GE (2010). Period. I was going to try it on my wife's car but pushed the old stud out 4mm and it impacts the knuckle. There's no way to even grind the old stud a little, there simply is not room (on a GE).

Monastery life is looking pretty good right about now lol i haven't tried to remove my hub as I don't really have anything but basic hand tools at the moment so I've had to leave it be for the time being, I really wish there were more videos on the gk's

From what I can see it's exactly the same on the GK the knuckle pokes out too far for the studs to be able to back out, I haven't been able to find any videos on how to remove the hub so im still looking into it as of right now

I would have cut the shield, bend it back, remove the stud, put in new stud, bend shield back and moved on with life. Nothing really wrong with simple cutting the "protective shield", and if you don't want the "cut line" you can swing by Home Depot and pick up some foil tape, tape over the line?

Here are a few videos for ref with cut to the shield, not on a Fit but same concept:
1)
2)

Good luck...
