Broken Wheel Stud

Broken Wheel Stud
A couple of weeks ago I had a shop install a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 205/50R16 and today I found that they had cross threaded one of the lug nut. The lug nut wouldn’t move when I tried to loosen it. After several attempt with an impact gun and still refused to budge I took out the 3’ cheater bar and the stud snapped. Yeah, what fun!!! Inspecting the wheel hub I don’t see any room to remove the broken stud with a 2 ½ lb hammer without removing the hub. I removed the knuckle, pressed out the hub, hammered out the broken stud, installed a new stud with a stud puller and pressed every thing back together. Here are some pictures that I took.
Wheel hub pressed out with broken stud hammer out.
New stud installed with stud puller.
Pressed the wheel hub into the knuckle

You did a nice job replacing the broken stud. I guess I have been lucky to deal with a tire shop that always torques the lug nuts when they replace tires. If the shop does it right you will never have broken studs. Using a impact tool to tighten lug nuts can also warp and ruin your rotors.
I would have taken the car back to the shop that caused the problem and insisted they fix the problem.
