Honda Lost Billions

According to an online report, Honda lost billions, mainly because of EV production. Maybe if they didn't charge so little for parts and service, they'd start making a profit. 🤣

Porsche also lost a fortune.

It’s a bit more complicated than just “EVs made them lose money.” For Honda, the EV transition costs are huge because they’re retooling factories, investing in batteries, and building supply chains that don’t pay off immediately. That hits short-term profits hard even if the long-term plan makes sense. As for parts and service pricing, that usually doesn’t directly balance out R&D losses in other areas. OEM service margins help, but they’re not big enough to offset multi-billion platform shifts.Porsche is in a similar boat, but even there it’s more about heavy investment in electrification and software rather than demand collapsing. The market is just expensive to transition into right now, not necessarily unprofitable overall.
