Backup Camera Oddity

Here's a strange one that you can all try. Driving into town last night, I noticed the Door Open light lit on the dash. Using my side view mirrors, I saw that the side doors were closed, so I figured it must be the rear hatch.

When I got to town and backed into a parking space, the rear view was different. There were no guide lines, and at the bottom of the display there were three icons, showing what looked like three different choices for the rear view. Something like, "Be aware of your surroundings" appeared at the bottom of the screen.

Go ahead. Go outside and try it.

I have always had the 3 options and the lines take a few seconds to show up on mine. Sometimes if I don't wait I am done backing before they come on.

Well, I don't know what to think now. I tried it earlier today, and the three choices were there. Maybe it was because I was getting a slightly different view with the hatch partially open. That called my attention to the three choices at the bottom. Maybe they were there all along.

Heres another one for you: I was washing my car with the key in my pocket. When i sprayed either the driver's or passenger's door in the front, the doors unlocked as if I had touched it. I was probably 5-6 feet from the car. It happened 4 or 5 times.

Also, the top most portion of the rear doors, below the window, sound almost completely hollow.

I plan to get into the doors one of these days and fill them with Dynamat Xtreme.

The owners manual states that water can activate the touch sensors in the handles and the car can unlock if the key is in range when that happens.

You are right. When I dynamated the doors, they were very hollow. They do have a structural bar for rigidity running through the middle but that was about it. They used lots gooey black glue though. Man that stuff was messy.
