VINs/build numbers question

VINs/build numbers question
I am sure there was a thread here about VINs and how they related to problems with the '15, but I can't find it. That's why they call it a "search engine" and not a "find engine".
Seriously, I entered "VIN" (without the quotation marks) and got "Sorry, no matches"! Considering how many posts mention them, I've decided that Hallowe'en Goblins got in.
So, the one thing I did find was saying to go by the last 5 digits - is that true, or should it be the last 6? If a VIN is 3HGGK5H83FM709335, does that mean it is a really low number, and is therefore of particular concern (09335 is way lower than the 22,000s, after all?
And, yes, I did try lower case, etc.
(Edited for typos)

I go by whatever follows the "FM". Your 709335, is lower than my 7146XX, and I missed the front bumper replacement program by just a little (my build date is June 2014). It appears we are separated by just over 5,000 cars. It may be that the 7 won't change anytime soon, but I don't know that for certain, so I alway's look what follows the "FM". Someone on this forum will have more accurate information for you. When I was looking, I alway's looked for at least a "1" after the "FM", because I noticed a local dealer discounting anything with a "0", and they said it was because those were original delivery, and the dealership considered them "dated" inventory (or original inventory, I can't remember now). It was for that reason, I was concerned that there was more to the story, so I started looking for the higher VIN numbers.

When the forum search doesn't come up with something, use a search engine with the site: modifier, i.e. VIN site:fitfreak.net
Google VIN site:fitfreak.net
Hope this helps.

Forum searches often ignore words with fewer than 4 characters (or so) to not overload the server they're hosted on.

Only the last five digits count for serial production. I see cars in the 32,000 range being delivered to our local dealer. The "7" probably means "US delivery" or somesuch. In the past, "8" has meant "Canada delivery"

For those who are adverse to searching here's what FF member TCroly posted many moons back:
If your VIN is 3HGGK5H88 FM701456:
The first digit (3) indicates the country where the car was assembled in this case 3 means Mexico
the second digit (H) indicates the manufacturer in this case Honda
The third digit (G) indicates this is a passenger car
The next 3 digits indicate the model in this case the GK5 means 3rd generation Fit
The H after the model means CVT transmission
The 8 after the transmission digit means it is an LX
The next 8 is called a "check digit" that is used in a mathematical formula using the other digits to verify that a VIN is correct.
The F indicates the year in this case 2015
The M indicates the specific manufacturing plant in this case Celaya Mexico
The 7 indicates it is a car for the US market
The last 5 digits are the sequential production number

Here's what I use: VIN Decoder - Honda-Tech
It identifies my Fit as an EX, EX-L, or EX-L w/Navi
