Yes, like close to 7000 or so and lugging under 2000 or so. Every time I've been there though I hit the paddle either way. No letting off the throttle.

It's stupid to lug it that low and it will shift to prevent floating the valves.

Useless? We're talking about a f&@€king Honda Fit. It's a GRANNY CAR. Even on an a/x course, if you're over either end of this spectrum in a MT Fit, your doing it wrong. At very least, you're in the wrong car regardless of the transmission.

I'm not sure what this means. Its instantaneous. Hit the paddle, it shifts. Faster than you can shift a manual and you don't have to back off the throttle. Don't shift, and it stays in the selected gears as long as the revs are within about 2000-7000 or so. I'm not sure why you would want to be in the red? If you frequently drive your manual in the red, you probably putting the hurt on your grocery getter... Oh, sorry. Your "race car".

Stop focusing on the paddles and tell me what's behind them. What does your shifter operate? The paddles ask a computer to move a belt to give you a different drive ratio. That belt, BTW, is hiding behind a Torque Converter: a device that takes your engine's output and converts it into a moment of contemplation. The only way this moment can end before tears fill your eyes is if you have a silly amount of horsepower on tap to shorten the moment. A more fun and cost-effective way to remove this moment is by removing the torque converter itself.

With all the slop built into the system it doesn't matter how fast one part of it can change "gears" because it has nothing to do with putting power to the ground. Instantaneous shifting is irrelevant when the shifting isn't the source of delay.

You wouldn't think that if you tried one with a drivetrain that didn't make the car move like it's at death's door.

I've never witnessed a grandmother driving a Fit, but if one did it would certainly have a CVT.

Come visit california. It's either young asian males or grannies driving Fits around here. Two of my coworkers (actual grandmothers) just bought Fits. Feeling a lot less cool about my car at work these days!

I live in California! Never seen it. Either way, they'd be driving CVTs, not 6MTs. Any car is less embarrassing if it's got a proper manual.

Man, I'm hanging out in the wrong parts of California then. Sadly, I'm in the cvt club too. Needed a car that bf could drive as well so stick was out (and, yes, I tease him all the time about never having learned!)

I'm in SoCal. I don't really see a whole lot of these cars in my particular area, but I see quite a few more in areas like San Diego/OC/etc. I'll try to pay more attention to the demographics. Truth be told, the CVT in these cars is far from the worst, so it's not the end of the world.

Bla bla bla. Words and stuff. I drove the 6mt version of this car. It was nice. My gramma drove a Datsun B210 "race car" with a manual for the longest time. What a race car the MT transformed it into! Now if it was an auto, it would have had to give up its race car status.

All joking aside, I'm just not seeing this horrible shifting lag time I keeping hearing about. Maybe I'm just not as skilled a driver or experienced enough ( I'm truly not and I know it).

In the end, I don't back this car off a trailer. I drive it to work and carry dogs and get groceries and do fun things with it. I've had my share of manual transmission cars. Who knows, maybe I'll get another. I can tell you, aside from the unknown longevity factor, at this point I don't regret the cvt. I don't think it's better or worse. It is fun. It's definitely not nearly as bad as some are making it out to be.

Sup.

CVT is not fun. Stop defending your refusal to drive your car.

Datsun 210 w/ manual, not auto, seen below.

Only one way to settle this CVT vs MT issue. Race. Fastest 0-60 wins (while holding a beverage). We'll both have to ignore the minivans passing us...;-)

Only stupid people would attempt to hold a drink while accelerating.

Although, I'd never drink in my car anyway. I'm driving, not eating.

It's sounding crazy to me now but lots of people can hold a beverage in the car while accelerating and not spill it. Been doing it for years without a hitch and I know some really smart people who do it too but you don't have to. Personal choices you know...like CVT vs MT (see...gotta bring it back around to topic). I like my transmission for reasons given. Enjoy yours!

Honestly, do you believe that he never holds a drink while driving?

I've only seen few older female Fit drivers.
Most of the ones I notice happen to be middle age white males. Some younger females with dogs, bikes, canoes.
I am in LA, SGV.

I've driven manuals in the past, and I do prefer them, but in stop and go traffic on my commute home, it just wouldn't be fun. Hence, the CVT.

I guess I'm not the only one:

Manual vs Paddle-Shift Gearboxes

It looks like paddles are slowly starting to creep into WRC and off the banned list as well.

Yeah, but those are mechanical, double clutch, gearboxes, not the belt ratio change you get with a CVT. Totally different animals. A good, mechanical, paddle shift will win hands down, but a CVT will always be a CVT.

That said, for the commute I have, the CVT was a better choice, and the paddles put a bit of fun back into an automatic. I've enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
