Grinding sound when going into reverse on MT EX

So I've noticed that when I shift into reverse while the car is already rolling backwards the I get the sound of gear grind. Is this something others are experiencing?

i do not think i ever tried to put it into reverse while moving. knowing the way fwd transmissions work internally, i wouldn't be surprised there isn't a ton of racket when trying to do this.

you should stop, then put it into reverse.

Just curious, but why would you already be moving backwards before putting it in reverse? As Rodney said, just make sure you're stopped before shifting to reverse. Same thing in the other direction, as you're backing out of your driveway you should always make sure you're completely stopped before shifting from reverse to drive.

Just like every other manual transmission in the known universe, there's no synchromesh on reverse gear. That grinding is nature's way of telling you not to shift into reverse while moving.

^Yeah, this

You shouldn't be going into reverse unless you're stopped, that's true for all manuals for the above reason, but I think these transmissions are even less forgiving than a lot of other cars I've driven as far as how much you can actually be rolling before it grinds.

Yeah I did some more research and found that the reverse on Honda mt transmissions is a straight cut gear with no sychros so that would explain all the problems. The only reason i asked is my driveway is slanted so to back out I rarely need reverse but sometimes when I have to stop cause a car is passing I'll go to slide it into reverse. Now I know that before I pull off the ebrake to already be in reverse
