Self-Locking Doors?

I know the Fit will lock the doors when it gets up to a few miles per hour, but while it's sitting in the garage? I've gone out to the car several times and found that the doors were locked. It's totally random. Anyone else?

I just disabled all autolocking features altogether, so you can do that if it bothers you. It's in the manual.

I've seen where if you hit unlock on the key fob and not open the door within 30 seconds, it'll auto lock.

I just confirmed this happens and I am delighted. Half the time I lower my bicycle from it's ceiling hook the bike seat hits the pocket where my keys are and it unlocks my Fit. I've been re-locking the car when this happens, but now I know the Fit will do it all by its self.

I like the auto-locking. I can live with it surprising me. I know it won't lock the doors when the key is in the car, so I'm safe there. Our Nissan Cube would lock the doors occasionally, too.

I rented a Renault Clio that automatically locked the doors, if they were all closed and the key fob was more than 15 feet from the car.

The self locking doors aren't anything new, and don't bother me at all. Heck, my first car in high school, a '93 Geo Metro had self locking doors at about 8mph (strangely, it was offered only on the '93 and '94 Metro, and never again)

But one thing I have had to adjust to, on the subject of door locks, from my recent cars is that if any door on my Fit is open, the locks won't activate if I lock them with the remote and then shut the door.

All my other newer cars will either lock immediately while the door is still open, or lock the doors once the door is shut, if I had used the fob to lock the and the door was open

It's a small nuisance if I know I'm going to have my hands full. I used to lock the doors with the car fob when my hands were empty, then usually shut the door with my hip when loaded down and they would lock. Now I have to either put everything down and lock the doors once they're shut, or grip onto the fob to lock the doors while holding everything else.

Certainly not the end of the world or a big problem, but just one of those little quirks that make you say "huh? I guess it doesn't do that..."

No, I mean when the car is just sitting parked in my garage. Sometimes when I go out to it, the doors are locked.

Do you keep the fob in a pocket? I've had other stuff in my pocket, or just doing things like leaning over just right, cause the buttons to actuate in the house but trigger the car in the garage or driveway. Have had happen with Honda/Acura, Ford, BMW and MB fobs.

If you normally keep it in your pocket, put it on the counter for a couple of weeks.

That could be the cause, but that's the only button that gets pressed - never the alarm. I'll leave it out of my pocket for a while and see what happens.

I believe the alarm button has to be pressed for a longer time. Occasionally when I had my 135i, I'd even set that off.

You're not crazy. My '15 Fit just did this while I was pushing the Harley into the garage. The lights blinked twice and the doors unlocked without touching the car or the fob. A few seconds later they locked themselves again.

The way you can get around this, is after you open the driver's side door to get out, lock the doors using the lock button on the door itself. That way, you never need to dig out the key fob, your hands won't be full with items you need to carry and all doors will be locked when you close your door.

Good suggestion but...... I often grab items out of the trunk.

In my old car, I'd get out of the car, shut the drivers door while it's still unlocked, open the unlocked hatch, then lock the door with the key fob, grab my stuff, shut the hatch which then locks the doors automatically, and walk off.

Looking the doors from the drivers doir when leaving the car then locks the hatch. That requires leaving the car unlocked and using the fob when the hatch is closed and my hands are full.

As aforementioned, its not a big deal but is one of those quirks that catch you off guard

Why not use the button on the hatch the same way you would the door?

Is there a button on the hatch? I've never seen that before, great feature! Mine is an LX, is this an EX only perk?

Don't know about the LX, but definitely on my EX. I didn't know it was there until someone on here pointed it out. I'm sure you could find it in the manual but it's to the right of the handle.

Boy, that's hard to find. Even after looking in the manual, I had to open the hatch and look for it.

It was at first but it quickly became second nature.
