I was recall free until today (12-18-2015) when I had a voicemail informing me about a recall on my Fit. I then checked my VIN online, and the info was confirmed. Here it is:

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 15V-697
MFR CAMPAIGN ID: JV8
CAMPAIGN DESCRIPTION: Rear Grab Handle Brackets
RECALL DATE: 10/19/2015
RECALL STATUS: Recall INCOMPLETE. Remedy not yet available.

As I sit at my local dealer reading everyone's horror stories I was just thinking this. Only issue I've come across is a driver seatbelt trim piece (which is being replaced at this moment). Makes me wonder if there are issues I'm not aware of or if I just got lucky.

Realize that this is a fanboy site and the complainers are far more likely to moan, groan, and complain that those who are at least moderately satisfied. In this day and age of mandated recalls, Honda's voluntary ones are not excessive on a totally new car in its first year.

Just took my FIT in for its first oil change and was told I have the handle-bracket corrosion recall.

What sucks is they need to take each door apart to remedy this, and if there is any bad rust It will need to go to a body shop. So much for my recall-free 2015.

If there is one tiny squeak or rattle after this is done I'm going to lose it.

Squeaks, rattles and rust are the only things that will absolutely drive me nuts.

It's been my understanding that only Fits sold/registered in Canada have been recalled for the door handle bracket rust issue, yet I see your location is given as "Boston".

I check my VIN with Honda's database every couple of weeks and still no recall on mine even though my door handle brackets are badly rusted.

It is apparently not just a Canadian issue anymore.

It never was a "Canadian only" issue, but without a say so from Honda corporate, my dealer won't replace them, and I see no sign of that happening.

Hmm I'll have to check out those brackets--I live in Minnesota, also a rusty sort of place :-) I do have rust somewhere in my wheel wells (iirc).

I got the grab bar recall notice, so just need to take the car in some time (which I don't mind at all, my dealership has yummy coffee, real half n half, snacks, usb ports etc etc. love that place).

could you elaborate on the rust? your early warning could add years to others (car) life!

Maybe this will help you, Uncle Gary. This is the issue as stated by my Dealership:

In the US, not all problems Honda is willing to fix are Recalls. A Recall is for safety defects only and has all kinds of regulatory reporting and notification requirements associated with it. No sign they are treating this issue as such in the US. They are, apparently, doing it as a customer satisfaction campaign. Some of those they notify owners about, others not. They may even be only doing it that way for cars in specific areas--say ones more prone to rusting than others. Your dealer should be able to tell if Honda is willing to reimburse them for fixing your car. But I don't think they ever put these in the check your VIN recall lookup. Because they aren't Recalls.

I had no recall according to the site. I've been checking every week or so.

My car has been at the dealer for another issue and they said I had an open recall for the door handle corrosion. So I wouldn't trust the site completely.

I will try to take some pictures when I get the car into the sun (lighting is very poor in the garage) & post them here. There's a chance it may not be rust at all, but I thought it looked like rust on the day I noticed it. I did a LOT of snowy salty road driving last winter.

Carrier -- thanks for the notice/recall info!

You are very welcome!

I took my car in yesterday and they had the car for about 6 hours. All the door handle brackets have been replaced. Apparently there was little to no corrosion on mine...and as someone living in Boston where we broke the record for snow totals last year that was a pleasant surprise!

I believe they are doing this because it should without a doubt be covered by the warranty...Honda is trying to avoid future issues with claims due to rust.

The above post is correct. My fit is at a dealer right now for another issue and they did the bracket fix. Their concern isn't necessarily that actual part, its more of a preventative maintenance type fix. They aren't really sure what they issue could turn into, but they figure its best to fix it now.

As far as why my car is there. Once it wouldn't start, with the little key symbol with the "!" blinking away and the other night the radio and gauges went black and that symbol flashed while I was going 45MPH. Everything came back on a second later. After two days in the dealer and getting Hondas corporate engineers involved (according to the dealer) they have recorded a handful of other issues like this. The fix in those cases was to replace the immobilizer antennas that work with the key. A malfunction could result in my issue. Right now it is something that "Honda is aware of" but there is no official recall.

Just a heads up if anybody else has experienced this.
