There is no fob. I drive a 2016 LX 6 speed. The key is all metal; no plastic. It unlocks the door and nothing else. My key to start the car is locked inside the car when I'm ready to launch my kayak.

No waterproofing needed. Just have a lanyard on it and keep it in my PFD pocket.

Ahh..ok. So if you have a smart key (push button start), this idea wont work since you can not start the car...

No idea. I like to keep things simple: get in the car, turn the key, depress the clutch to get into gear, and zoom-zoom.

My radio also has knobs. Another reason I went for the LX.

Guess I'll try it today.. Push button starts are nice but they have their own issues to work out such as this. I also do lot of activities that gets me in the water and don't want to risk the fob not working due to getting wet.

Aquapac makes an excellent waterproof key case. Comes with its own lanyard.

I thought I read that you had an EX. Sorry.

If you have an EX with push button start the solution is simple. Separate the emergency key from the fob, hide the fob in the car, then use the key to lock the door. With the fob in the car the only way the door can be opened is with the key.

I just tried it and it works.

Get a lock box for a door at Home Depot and attach it to a tow hook on the car.

Downside being, if someone breaks in, they can drive off with no effort with that keyless start FOB in the car. But that is a small risk that someone figures that out.

My thinking exactly. If he pushes that button, car will start. Will the car start if the key is in the trunk? I'll have to test this.

Yes. I have tested this. The Fit is so small there is no place you can put the fob that the car will NOT start with the button. The only way I found to hide the fob was to remove the fob battery. The fob can still be used but has to be very close to button!

Is there a way to block the signal from the fob?

You would have to put the fob in something that can block the RFID chip in the fob. That way the car can not 'see' it.

I do not know what is available that would fit a fob. I am aware of sleeves for CC's and driver's licenses that block RFID. Someone mentioned using a small Altoids box. I tried that and it did not work. Maybe something lead lined? You would have to research this as I do not have an answer.
If you do find something please post it. I'm sure other Paddlers etc would like know.

Wrap the fob in aluminum foil. Simple, inexpensive, easy to source, and it works.

I thought if they broke in the anti theft activates and car will not start unless they find the fob and deactivate (push unlock) it. Hard to test this out.
