Unhappy Broken Into :-(

March 4th marked the one year old mark for my 15 EX manual - I clocked 20K miles. Sadly 2 days later she was violated and broken into and the schmuck used a crow bar or something to break out the drivers window bending the door/window frame.

I filed a claim with the insurance - OEM parts - and the total is $1145 in damages!

While I love this Fit - I am just blown away at truly how cheap the paint is, much of my damages are from paint chips from the broken glass as well as the chips on the interior door panel (plastic?). She will be done in about a week, I am curious to see how this yellow matches up being repainted and such.

On another note - in my 1 year I have only had the door bracket recall, I have no major complaints as I commute in this car between DC - NYC mainly (only doing so for another month), and if I use cruise I get 43+ mpg running 75mph or so, if I use my right foot it drops to 38mpg or so. Mechanically she has been fine, I am going to do a warranty claim as the front rotors are starting to shimmy in the 40mph range. Other than that, my only complaint is that stupid radio and with having the sunroof one cannot see the screen if the sun is glaring into the sunroof. Whoever designed this radio on the EX gets cursed at by me often!

Sorry to hear about your Fit being violated. And in a way, you were personally violated also. I guess the guy got nothing for his efforts - nothing stolen? And yes the paint job is cheap. I got out of my car a few days ago and my key barely touched door and it chipped the paint. $15 for touch up paint at the dealer.

Maybe you could post some before and after pics?

I'm afraid that "cheap paint" is the norm, given current EPA/OSHA/EU regulations limiting emissions from VOCs in paint. That's what's driving the change to waterborne and low VOC type paints in industry. That's the price you pay for clean air and healthier workers.

That said, the white paint on my '15 Fit has held up beautifully through this past winter. I had a couple of small chips appear the first month I owned it, but I've seen nothing since.

To the OP, sorry about your troubles. I can only hope that karma catches up to the thief in a major way. God, how I hate thieves!

To bad to hear your story bro. Did you had something of value at sight? Are you now thinking about an alarm or something like that? Also I think you can tint your sunroof.

If this was me I'd be camping out, setting up cameras, and embedding some nails in a wooden bat to get this guy. I'm sorry this happened to you! Good luck!

Nothing of value was in sight, I had $6 in quarters hidden that they got and that was it. I have the back windows blacked out, luckily those were left alone. The person was caught on surveillance and police reports filed etc. One can only hope at this point.

As for the sunroof, it's tinted but I tend to drive with it open.
