Interesting, as the US has mandated that all cars come with a backup camera from 2016, all 2015 2016 US/Canada Fits have backup cameras as standard.

So the backup camera package also includes the steering wheel ratio and volume controls? Interesting. Does the JDM Fit come with cruise control, which is usually on the US/Canada steering wheel's right side?

You lucked out with the 5 speed. I think you have better ratios than the 6 speed.

Cruise control comes standard on the more expensive versions such as the hybrid, and RS models.

You have to understand that it's not like buying a car in the states these days. It's more like how it used to be, where you didn't just buy what they have on the lot. You'd tell the dude what car you want, and then you sit down with a huge tome-like catalog of upgrades.

It's all rather confusing to me, to be honest. You have the salesman sitting there with a huge pile of papers trying his best to get you to order as much stuff as he can get you to pay for, and you are on the other side of the table trying not to get slickered by this dandy boy in a suit. After an hour of mental arm wrestling, you come to an agreement that you're only vaguely aware of, and then he orders it from the factory. The cars on the lot are strictly for test drives and looking at in the showroom.

That's how I ended up with no steering wheel controls.

Frankly I'd have preferred the Japanese method over the US/Canada method. Here in Canada we have 4 versions, then we choose one of 3-4 colours, and that's it. We have no other options. It is very limiting. I wanted a few of the options from the upgraded cars, and I'm sure the upgraded car buyers wanted to scale down certain options of the lower grade cars.

But knowing what I know of the Japanese penchant for endless options, it would probably initially make your head spin. And I'm sure that with my broken Japanese I'd get suckered, but I'd rather take the chance and have more options.

I'll give you a basic run down of your options. There are 8 base models to choose from, with 13 colors, 6 sat nav units, 4 audio units, 4 transmissions (including the flappy paddle gear shifters) 1300, 1500, hybrid, and hybrid sport engines, and 7 interiors.

and then we have the dealer options.

Sometimes I think Henry Ford had it right when he decided to go with black for model Ts.

A lot of US cars are still like this, with a bewildering array of option packages and a la carte options.
The Ford Fiesta, for example.

The Fit is different here. You have two models LX and EX (well, 2 and 1/2, counting the EX-L), one engine, two transmissions (although the 6 speed manual is rarer than sasquatch sightings), and 8 colors. That's it.
