Replacing Honda Link system with one that can take Apple Car Play
I'm wondering about replacing the Honda Link system in my 2015 Fit with one that can take Apple Car Play. I don't know much about this, but first of all is it possible? Also, does it disable the rear camera and the right turn camera. What does it cost? And finally, are there other considerations that I need to take into account?
It should be possible, but you'll likely lose your lanewatch camera. The rear cam should be usable, though. You'll also lose the MPG screens. Seems like I remember seeing someone report they had done it recently.
CarPlay-compatible head units start around $400-500 and go up from there. Wiring harnesses, etc., will add to that. You will need to do some legwork on your own to figure out the options vs. what you want to pay vs. the features you want.
I just put a Pioneer HU in my '15 farm truck (replacing a base model radio). It wasn't plug and play by any stretch (a lot of soldering to connect two different wiring harnesses together so it would all work). But I kept my rear cam (and actually moved the video from the rear-view mirror where it displays with the OEM radio to the new HU), and I can upgrade my steering wheel with OEM volume controls and the HU will automagically recognize them.
CarPlay is great. Just wish Honda hadn't stiffed us like they did. Still think they owe us a firmware upgrade (I'd even pay for it, up to a point) to enable CarPlay.
