We gave the HR-V a serious look, but decided against it because the HR-V is 3" wider, 9" longer, did not get the gas mileage as the FIT and was in its first model year. The HR-V interior seemed to have a higher quality and costs more than the FIT by over $3000. All things considered it might be the perfect choice for those who feel the FIT has creature comfort shortcomings.

Interesting. FWIW, I dumped the HRV manual gear ratios into a calculator. The HRV doesn't suffer the same odd relationship of 5th and 6th found in the Fit.

Speed per thousand RPM: (assuming a tire diameter of 26.6 inches)

1st 5
2nd 9
3rd 12
4th 16
5th 20
6th 24mph

I remember being intrigued by the HR-V when it was announced, and it was a toss-up between the HR-V and a new LX Fit.

The dealbreaker was the power to weight ratio compared to the fit. If memory serves:

Fit: ~2500 lb. curb weight, 130 hp engine
HR-V: ~3000 lb. curb weight, 141 hp engine

My LX with CVT is plenty quick with the 130 hp, such that I don't feel like the car is coming apart every time I ask for gas. The HR-V has to contend with a higher curb weight and a marginally more powerful engine. I don't think the 11 hp bump over the Fit is enough to make the HR-V anywhere near the Fit's point-and-shoot quality.

It's funny a complaint on the review is the touch screen climate controls.

Some people wish that for the Fit, even though another complaint is the touch screen volume.

HR-V has a slightly stretched version of the Fit chassis.
