Rev hang/surge

Noticed that my Fit has a considerable amount of rev hang. More noticeable the higher the RPM goes up.

If I shift near redline, it sounds like the revs shoot up and hang there a little bit. Sometimes it hangs so high and long that I'll just shift into 5th or 6th once the rpms drop instead of going into the next gear.

Do these just have a real heavy flywheel or something, or is this normal?

Apparently Honda thinks this is "normal," but it's the first manual trans car out of many manuals over the years that have this peculiar trait. You are not alone, friend...clutch delay valve, or something??? I dunno....have kinda gotten used to it, but, it does dampen the fun

My ST has the same thing, which is probably to reduce emissions.

tbFit is probably right. What's interesting is that my 1980 Accord did the exact same thing between 1st and 2nd. Regardless of how I shifted, there would be a bump. I was new to manual transmissions at the time and I thought I was doing something wrong.

unless ur mounts are shot or something there should be no bump between shifts on a MT, shifting up or down.

u do have to compensate for fuel burn off on these modern cars.

Welcome to drive by wire throttles... Seems to be a feature...

Matt Farrah (hope I spelled his name right) on his YouTube video review of the civic hatch sport talks about the Rev hang and how the flywheel is dual mass which increases the three effect of rev hang. It "might" be possible that the fit might have a heavy ass flywheel for fuel economy.

yah also for normal driving, a tad heavier clutch is easier to drive.

I've had cars with heavy dual-mass flywheels before and drive-by-wire, but they never acted like this at higher RPM. Although they were from the early 2000s, so I guess much has changed

Think it's normal for newer cars. My 06 Mustang GT did the same thing.
