Exclamation P2183 - Coolant Temperature Sensor 2 Range/Performance

Full code:

P2183 - Powertrain
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor2 Circuit Range/Performance

2016 Honda Fit EX 18.5k miles.

Currently temps have been as low as -20 *F recently up in the 40s for the last week, some snow but nothing major prior to the code. No unusual temp behavior I can see on the scan tool ( ELM327 bluetooth with torque pro on android ) and car seems fine. Facebook person suggested thermostat but at this time it doesn't appear an aftermarket one exists ( I don't mind OEM just seems odd ) so before I get coolant on my recently cleaned garage floor does anyone else have a suggestion/input? I'm also going to replace the sensor as soon as I can get my hands on the diagram that shows me which is 1/2 so I'm hoping there's a Honda tech on here that reads this.

Car doesn't have a warranty. Got a great deal on it because of hail damage and I drive a lot and am capable of maintaining a vehicle.

Update: looks like I get to be a pioneer for this stuff since the car is so new and most owners just have warranty.

Drove to work this morning monitoring the temp with OBD2 scanner.. never got over 180.. maybe thermostat isn't opening and that's why the code is popping but I'm not getting any apparent issues with the car.

I ordered thermostat and coolant temp sensor from dealership. Should be here in a week. $100 for the pair. Not sure which is going to solve the issue but going to replace both so I only make a coolant mess once.

Judging by the code thrown it sounds like its one of the coolant temp sensors is not operating at the range specified. Id start by locating and replacing it, or reset the ecu and see if it comes back, or was just a fluke triggered by super cold temps.

That's what I thought at first also, but I cleared it and drove 300 miles and it returned.

Gotta be a faulty sensor then, i dint believe the thermostat would affect the way the computer moniters the voltage of the temp sensor, judging from your coolant temps wich read very similar to mine your thermostat is working great.

Do you happen to know the location of the sensor #2 ?

Someone suggested near thermostat but didn't sound confident.

I have no clue where it would be on these motors, id call up honda with info you have and ask a tech for the location, or download a manual with digram to locate it.

But thermostat housing/area sounds like a good guess. Usually sensor #1 measures block coolant temps, and sensor #2 is after the thermostat or in some cases right near where the upper radiator hose connects.

I'm asking around for a diagram right now from some people I think might have it. I have something else I can drive in the mean time

Updating this thread:

Now closer to 26k miles with intermittent code, but a week ago I had a thermostat code..

I replaced both the thermostat and coolant sensor 2 - note for future people reading this since the Chilton guide failed to mention it: remove the AC fan and life gets much easier

Drove it to work this morning and got a new P2185 code - coolant sensor high.

Suggestions before I drop it at the dealership?

Another Fiddy meets hungry criter... = P2185

My 2015-honda-fit (named Fiddy), just this week got a check engine light with P2185 code... ECT2 (engine coolant temperature sensor #2) high voltage...
As it was -10C outside, before the wind chill, and garage is full, and ramps too thin, and me too thick, and belly pan a PITA, I let the dealer take just over CAD$250 from me for the code read and a wire fix. Apparently rodent(s) and more likey rabbit(s) (I have seen tracks in the snow), had feasted on the wire(s) to ECT2 sensor. I named the rabbit TwoFiddy (due to repair cost), and if I ever catch it, will feast on some rotisserie rabbit to get the reparations started.
Over 5.5 years, and 65K km, never any other issues with CVT Fiddy outside wear items (Fr brakes and recent tires) and ongoing regular lube maint, and 1 or 2 minor recall fixes. Actually, I did get an AC hose fix under extended warranty.
