I had mine ABOVE the vent in front the the driver's left side cup holder. Now that I use Waze 99.999% of the time, I don't even haven't mounted. It sits in the trunk for the rare event that I'm traveling in an area with spotty cell phone reception. Waze does pretty much everything better than a Garmin.

I also had the magnetic mount on the driver's left side cup holder, but have moved that to the left of the stereo at this point. It's better there for running Waze for navigation. Phone mount

I have a few year old Garmin GPS with real-time traffic. I find that google maps is generally more accurate when it comes to traffic. I don't know why- I know that google gets its traffic data from people's android cell phones.

Does anybody know where Garmin gets its traffic data from?

I considered using that Proclip solution for placing my cell phone in my Fit. IME Proclip makes quality products. Ultimately I decided on a generic magnetic solution pictured below. It has adhesive tape which is stuck to the starter button dummy plug. I consdered using that dummy plug to anchor a ball mount with an arm to get the phone up higher, in front of the hazard light button. If you haven't already pulled the trigger on a mount, this could be a good solution for getting the GPS up higher in your field of vision without drilling into anything other than that dummy plug. Unless of course you have an EX which makes all this meaningless...

Since I rarely need to touch the phone once it's plugged in, I left it down lower. Being so close to the key has actually worked out well. On more than one occassion before installing the mount, I had ended up leaving the phone in the center console cubby...
