Rear Wiper "Repair"
Rear Wiper "Repair"
My son, with a 2019 Fit EX, came home today and said his rear wiper wasn't wiping. It was just hanging down. I removed the plastic cover over the 10 mm attaching nut, and I saw that the nut was just a few revolutions away from coming off completely. I tightened it and put the plastic cap back on. When was the last time you saw the nut that holds a wiper come loose? For me, it's never.
It might not be a bad idea to check the tightness of that nut on your Fit. My son's car had metal shavings on the body from the shaft turning inside the wiper arm. Be careful removing that plastic cap. I think the best way to remove it is to pull out both sides of the skirts that hang down from the top of the wiper. I tried prying it, and I broke a small piece off the top.

Never on my 17 year old CRV (just sold) and my recently sold 1992 Integra and my old (and stolen) 1994 Civic VX. That's modern Honda quality with a capital Z.
I'll put that on the list of items for the dealer to fix on my 2019 (including door sag, coolant below MIN line, etc).

In this case, the wiper was hanging straight down. If it's loose enough to let the shaft slip in the wiper, it will grind away the grooves that should be keeping the wiper engaged with the shaft. So, basically, it will be fine if the nut isn't tight, until the wiper starts drifting off the shaft.

I wonder if that's where the ticking sound is coming from - especially when the car's rear end faces the sun on very cold days. I've not been able to isolate where the expansion is coming from but a realtively new car shouldn't have that nut backing out. But extreme temperature differences and the sun's radiant energy might be playing with the stressed connection between the nut/bolt and the glass all expanding a different rates.
The info to pull the cap on both sides was a great help for me- the wiper on our 2019 Honda Fit had also come loose. Tightened it up and it works great! Thanks!

I would love to reposition the whole assembly so that it pivots from above like some Toyota and Lexus vehicles. It would probably be less prone to heavy snow build up, but probably a better view out rear b/c of the wiper pattern being more cleared at the top.
