Cord Kit for iPhone

So I'm getting HondaLink set up so I can use my iPhone maps app, and Honda would like to sell me a cord kit for $99. Seems like a bit much. Is there a cheaper source for the kits or a source for the individual components?

I have 1500 miles on the EX manual and really like it so far.

Also note, you can't use Apple's Maps App -- you can only use Honda's NAV app found in the Apple App Store for $60 --- you may want to check the reviews before buying...

The advantage of buying the cords from apple is they are both the same length. I couldn't find an HDMI cable short enough to not have to coil it up. Honestly after having it for a couple months I seldom use it. The navi app isnt near as nice as a garmin.

I bit the bullet and purchased the kit individually from the Apple store. Was $86 dollars total. Not bad for OEM stuff from Apple. As for the Nav App in a word it FRACKEN SUCKS!!!!! Do not buy it your better off following the stars, use a sextant or just plain getting lost.....

It's an interesting problem for Honda. The nav app that they are linking to can't be too good or they will undermine sales of their own navigation system.

Having a rudimentary nav app boosts sales of the Display Audio system to people too cheap to buy Navi and who might gain the mistaken impression that they will be getting Apple or Google navigation on the big screen. Honda isn't too quick to correct this mistaken impression. The proof is in the lack of pudding.

Tmfit has it right, a low-end Garmin is better than the Honda nav app.

I was under the impression the honda has a mirroring feature that will show what's on your phone. Like if you were to use apple maps. Or is this something that will show up later.

The Display does have a mirroring feature - but it only works with the car in Park... once you are moving the display is disabled - and there is no real work around - at least not without a lot of dismantling of the Head Unit and re-wiring work. Hopefully, at some point - we will see a CarPlay update????

So if you set your destination on the iPhone nav app while the car is parked, it won't mirror on the display when you're moving? What about audio controls (i.e. playing audio through the speakers?

The audio directions from an iPhone app such as Google Maps or Apple Maps should play through the audio on the speakers - you just won't have any video displayed on the HondaLink display...

Wow. That's annoying. It looks like I'll be back to command hooks (my rental car solution) until the Honda apps work better or CarPlay is available.

I bought the HDMI adapter from Apple, and was able to find a 6" HDMI cable as well as a 6" USB->Lightning cable online. Plug the adapter into your iPhone and the other two into the HDMI and USB ports and you're good to go without a snarl of cables. The only down side is that if you need to actually do something on the phone, you only have about 12" of total cable length.

I noticed that the HondaLink Connect app got updated a couple days ago, which should hopefully fix the iOS 8 incompatibility.

Have you tried updating the HondaLink Connect app? If so, how does it work? The few reviews I read on iTunes were not promising...

I updated the app, but haven't tried using it yet. Not sure if I want to only up for the Nav app based on what I'm reading about it.

I did the update and have to say it's much better. I have an iphone 6 and it seems to be fine. I do not have the Nav app, I think this needs work. All the other features work well.

JettBalckFit, out of curiousity, by "much better," do you mean, "it pretty much works as expected, but with glitches"? (and if so, what glitches), or "it pretty much works as expected/described."?
