Maps has sent me on roads that were 4 wheel drive only and sent me to private property parks that were closed to the public as a way to get through to the other side. Once it even sent me to a grass field that it wanted me to drive across.

I do NOT use Apple Maps anymore!

Google and you'll find that I'm one of millions that find it to be an extremely poor app compared to any other option.

My new car has built in navigation. Much better than any other I've had. That's now my plan for the future.

Edited to add that, as a household, we put about 60k/year on our two cars so we get lots of time to try out the different apps and systems.

Been using CarPlay heavily since I got my car in May. I LOVE IT. To me this is the way interfacing with the car should be. Apple Music syncs and behaves perfectly for me (iPhone X btw). Coming from a Mazda Connect system previously, CarPlay is heaven for me and was in fact a major deciding factor on the car purchase.

I have not had any of the issues mentioned in this thread - except I do get the occasional reboot.

I dont even have any beef with Apple Maps - that said, Ill likely switch to Google Maps when we get that ability with iOS12.

I use apple maps and music.

I prefer Waze, but i like having the on screen navigation for trips where i am not familiar with the roads. I thought I read a blurb that apple is opening up the car OS to allow 3rd party nav. Maps definitely responds slower to traffic conditions than apps like Waze and Google.

Mine wouldn't find my phone and activate carplay until I used a white OEM apple charging cable.

Does anybody know if it's possible to update Carplay in our vehicles to possibly work better with an updated iOS?

Carplay exists on the phone. There is no "update." The unit in the dash is just a receiver of the Carplay system. Sort of like plugging your phone into an LCD screen. There is nothing to update on the LCD screen side.

Every once in a while there will be a small update, but its generally things like security issues.
