Apple CarPlay

I have installation scheduled for Apple CarPlay in my 2017 Honda Fit LX. My friend told me that he just puts his iPhone in a clip in the air vent and gets the same benefit at a way lower price.

Other than the bigger screen (I ordered the 7" Kenwood, what other benefit would there be in installing a 3rd party system? Obviously, if your new vehicle comes with it, bonus. Those who have such a system, CarPlay or Android Auto, happy you purchased it?

This is my thread that I created for my Pioneer Avic 6000-NEX that has CarPlay

Personally, I don't like the fact that I have to be plugged in via USB-to-8pin to use it and find it cumbersome to have to open my glove every time I am in the car. If it was wireless I would use it but instead I just play my music via Bluetooth and use the Pioneer software instead

I've got it now. I think you can cancel the install and save your money to be honest. The biggest benefit of the Apple Carplay is having the apple maps on the screen when you need navigation. Other than that, the system you have does all the same stuff.

Receiving directions and giving directions through the car is a major plus in my book. Instead of messing with a phone while driving, you can give orders and receive information hands free.

That's with a factory apple car play system. Not sure if it applies to aftermarket units.

yah, i travel a lot and i carry my company iphone and a magnet clip for the vents to put on the rental. i just call up siri and tell her to nav to my contacts. it does the same for that purpose without carplay.

but if you listen to spotify, pandora, iheart radio, carplay has apps native to those apps so you can can like/dislike a track select stations, etc. all from the headunit.
