Mini Cooper Wheelset
Mini Cooper Wheelset
Hi all, I'm looking at a set of Mini Cooper rims and snow tires tomorrow. The seller from claims they are 15x5.5 with 4x100 bolt pattern and tires are Hankooks sized 185/60/15. My question is two fold:
1. Does anyone foresee any fitment issues between the mini wheels and the Fit?
2. What do I need to do as far as tpms? Do I need to buy sensors, do you think the mini wheels will be compatible with the Fit tpms? This is my first car with a tpms, so I'm new to it.
Here is a link to the wheels:

1.) You might need hub centering rings if the center bores are a different size. Older Mini's are the same as the Fit newer ones might be different.
2.) I wouldn't do anything if you are ok with the light being on.

1) You should be fine as long as its from a R5X chassis Cooper or Clubman.. R50/R53, R56/R57 MINI all are 4x100 PCD and should also have the same hub bore as the Fit which should be 56.1mm. The later F chassis are 5x112 I believe (don't hold me to it other than being 5 lug). Just note the offset of the wheel... They should be in the mid to upper +40mm range if memory serves me right.
Do take note of the lug nut seat design!
Honda's have ball seat style lug nuts for their wheels, BMW/MINI I believe use acorn/taper seats which will NOT work with OEM Honda lug nuts. Mixing the two is NOT suggested, doing so may cause the lug nuts to not be adequately torqued to spec due to dissimilar surfaces and a much smaller contact patch with the lug nut and wheel seat.
2) 3rd gen Fits don't have physical sensors in the wheels... It runs an indirect TPMS that uses ABS sensors to calculate wheel speed and determine which tire(s) are low. Reset the TPMS like you normally would after checking tire pressure or rotating tires then drive off so the system can begin its re-calibration/learning process.

Thanks for the info. I think I saw the recalibration option in the settings when I was turning off the annoying locking beep, so that should be easy. I guess I just need to find proper lug nuts and maybe remove the old sensors from the rims (a quick search online looks like the minis of that generation used physical sensors). If I need to remove the old sensors I should be able to replace it with a regular valve stem right?
You don't necessarily have to remove the sensors if they're already there (it won't affect the Fit's TPMS at all)... But you can toss those out and put a traditional valve stem in if you want.
Thanks for the additional info. I ended up getting the rims but the tires are really unevenly worn and 3 would be useless in the snow, so I'll need to get 4 new tires. I'm thinking 175/65/15 as it retains the stock diameter from the 16's with a narrower width and gives me another half inch of sidewall. The big question is lug nuts. I saw in other posts that people were having trouble finding tapered ones that fit properly. The best bet looked like it was the set from jegs but when I went to their site they were discontinued. I guess my question is do they need to be the design with the 0.25" shank as seen in the pictures from the jegs lug nuts, or can they have zero shank like most others I've found online?
