Honda Fit 2019 Replacement Battery

Hello Fit Owners,

I have to replace the battery on my Fit and wondering if there's a more premium offering than stock to have more idle power/better crank. Thanks!

Yes. You want to replace the OEM 151R battery with the 51R. Fits in the same tray and about 30% more CCA. It's a no-brainer where I live, where I need every CCA I can get.

I read up on that and it's saying that the 51R requires the tray to be modified - is this true and if not please send a link to the batter that you got - thanks!

I installed the 51R on my '16 LX myself. No tray mod needed. Search this subforum for details, we have plenty of threads about it.

Edit: If they changed the battery tray on the '18 mid cycle refresh, that's on me. But I know the '15-17 will fit.

More idle power? No such thing from a battery.
There are two different trays. One full size works as is. I believe it was more common in Japan. The more common North American smaller one requires a little bit or trimming to remove a raised edge if you go with the larger, better 51R battery..

2016 and some early 2017 Fits are made in Japan, they have the larger tray. If your Fit is made in Mexico, then you will need to 1) Modify the tray 2) Totally remove the tray(not recommended) 3) Replace the tray with the tray from the Japanese made GK Fit.

Here is a thread on it.

Diehard Battery.

I got a stock size Diehard battery after the Honda battery was due. Zero power and starting issues.

You have to chop of a small raised section in the corner of the tray.

If you go AGM then you don't need to do anything extra as there's nothing to leak or spill.

If you want to stay flooded, you can swap in a tray from another Honda that is plug and play. I forget what car but it was mentioned in another thread about this.

Going to a standard 51R battery is all you really need. I don't see any reason to consider an AGM battery which is much more expensive and adds no value. The original 151R battery has about 370 cold cranking amps and the 51R will give you 500 to 550 (depending on the manufacturer). That extra capacity is all you need for the small Fit.
