It's illegal to have your Highbeams and foglights on at the same time. It's normal that the foglights will automatically turn off. As for teh foglights at drl, there's a DIY for it: Independent Fog Light PROBLEM SOLVED

That's the way it is from the factory. When you turn on the high beams, the fog lamps turn off.

It depends on what country you're from...

Even if not illegal, having both fog and high beam lights on would be counterproductive, now wouldn't it?

Exactly, which is why it's hard-wired that way in cars from the factory. It's usually a simple fix (jumping a relay, e.g.) to take that limitation out, as folks here have determined and described in the above thread. But people who want to show off their lighting for one reason or another usually want to bypass it.

I guess I am one of the few that added fogs for their intended purpose of assisting in foul weather.

Back in the day, I have used large wattage DRIVING lights (anyone else remmeber those) on many cars when driving in rural countryside. These are bright and had a beam pattern that shone way down back roads.

Versus fog:

I still have one set (SEV-Marchal) that are probably older than most of the posters on this forum!
