I wonder what the divers eat under water during long dives.
I am headed out to the store for charcoal and some other stuff, but I will stop by the diving shop. Maybe I should pick up some fins, mask, oxygen tanks,... I am debating between wet or dry suit! Non-divers should have life wests! ROFL!

Sorry guys, I can't resist from teasing us with the weather conditions!

Guys, DO NOT FORGET REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE PROOF! If we get pulled over for any stupid reason (won't be for speeding or reckless driving for sure!!!) while in somebody else's car, we need to have it.

Dave,
just thought of it! Is park ranger on the entrance be willing to let us in and out of the park so many times?
Some parks do not have "return privileges"!!!

Good thought- here's the answer. At both Mt. Diablo and the Mt. Hamilton park, we all received a receipt for the fee with a piece of tape on one end to stick it on the windshield. If you drive out, then back in, the ranger at the entrance won't charge you for parking again. Same is true at Vasona/Los Gatos. This is the usual State Park policy, and is for sure at Santa Clara County parks.

Bring a surfboard or a raft. The Fits WITHOUT bumper-mounted CAI's can tow us around the flooded roads.

Today I was driving 45 on the highway.... talk about scary.

Southbound on 280 near the John Daly blvd exit, it was flooded... and I hydroplanned a good 50 feet at 25mph.... it sounded cool, but I could feel the traction giving out a few times per second... it was scary.

Hope anyone coming from SF takes 101.. it's a bit safer, but with all the accidents happening there, it may take a while, but it's much safer and faster than 280.

Map of Vasona Park

Guys,
here is the map of the park:

http://www.narfrescue.org/events/wal...ona%20map1.pdf

Pictures of pavilions on the bottom of the page:
Group Picnic Areas - Parks and Recreation, Department of (DEP)

Dave, some pavilions are closer to the actual parking than others. Due to rain, we should pick the one with the shortest distance to parking regardless where in the park that might be. Especially since we will be carrying food.
I doubt we will have any competition preventing us from choosing.
Nobody in their right mind beside hard core Freaksters will be thinking about spending a day outside!
Do you know which pavilion would be the best? From the pictures looks like Gateway pavilion is the only one 100% covered, but does it have BBQ? Others have open roof over BBQ's!

Dave changed the route a bit to make it safer. He said that he will lead us on the first run through it.
We will just have to tie his Fit up for one of ours. In case he disappears under watter we will be able to pull him out! ROFL!

Joke a side, guys, we will have a great time even if it was raining axes!
We always had a good time together. After all South Cali is jealous of our BBQ events for a reason!

Only one pavilion is fully covered, the rest have open centers that will allow rain to drown any attempt to light a fire. Aren't you glad that I rented the fully covered one??? For that reason, the parking is what it is- a short walk to the pavilion.

Again, you enter at 333 Blossom Hill Road. Turn right at the first opportunity. You will pass a little square kiosk where you are supposed to pay your parking fee of $6.00 if no ranger is present at the station in the entrance driveway. I am betting that no ranger will be there. If that is the case, trying to use the self-pay kiosk is pretty silly. Just come to the "GATEWAY PAVILION" a little way past the kiosk (it will be on your right side). Unload your stuff, and drive along the road to the opposite end of the park to the Office to pay the fee and get your receipt to stick on the windshield.

Keep in mind that the head ranger, Aniko Millan, knows that we are coming and will be sure to cruise by to see all of the "neat little cars". If you have a gambler's spirit, you may be able to get away without paying the parking fee. I doubt that any ranger is going to walk the parking lot looking for parking receipts, but who knows- they might. From the expense of the pavilion fee, they obviously need money.

About the test route:

In the planning stage, before this turned into a monsoon, my plan was to drive south on Hwy. 17 to the top of the mountain and get off at Summit Road, and take that west to where it intersects with Bear Creek Road, then take Bear Creek east again to Hwy. 17. But the weather makes that a bad idea. Summit Road has narrow parts where two Fits can't eve pass each other going opposite directions. One of those bottlenecks is right in front of Steve Wozniak's old house!

So, depending on how bad the weather is, the new plan is to take Hwy. 17 to Bear Creek Road, and drive about 5 miles west to the intersection of Hwy.35 (Skyline Blvd.). We will u-turn at the intersection, pausing for traffic when necessary, and go back down Bear Creek Rd. to Hwy. 17, then back north again to the Los Gatos Bl. exit and back to the park coming from the south.

Be prepared for abandoning this plan if the weather is too wild. I will have taken this route to get to the park in the first place, but I have been doing that for 26 years.

That sounds like a good route. But where are we going to turn around on Bear creek?

You need to read the whole post, not just the first sentence. There are three paragraphs- you want the middle one.

Based on how your tires looked at the Diablo meet, I am really surprised that you are still on the same tires. If we don't see you, I will assume that you did not get new tires, and you became a permanent part of a center divider somewhere after a spectacular spin out. Good luck!

Somebody please bring a good wire brush for the BBQ cleaning!
With the weather the way it is, it might be the absolute highlight of our day, beside seeing each other again!

Dave, are there any covered parking garages in the area?
Maybe we can use that for spring height measuring session!
