2013 Honda Fit Back Hatch Giving Me Trouble Closing/Opening

Ever since I bought my Fit in 2017, the back hatch has given me trouble. The past year or so it's to the point I can't open it at all. My husband who is much stronger than me can usually yank it hard enough to open it when required but mostly I just avoid using the hatch at all, which isn't ideal. To close the back door, you have to make sure the little latch catcher thingamabobber under the handle is manually moved over (if that makes sense) and even then it takes a few slams to shut.

My husband has been WD40ing the latch but that doesn't really fix anything.

Does anyone have any advice on what I might be able to do to fix this? The back wiper doesn't work either, I'm sure they're not related issues but I wanted to put that out there lol. It's irritating because in my province (Ontario) the car has to be safetied before the sale can go through and the hatch didn't work well and the wipers didn't work at all from the get go. Stupid me didn't realize these should have been addressed during the safety and by the time I did realize it, it was too late to go back to them and demand they fix it.

Replacement latches are pretty easy to get ahold of. Places like Rock Auto or HondaPartsNow are good places to start.

There is a decent Youtube video about replacing your hatch handle. You can at least possibly clean but need to disassemble to find out. Seems fairly straight forward.

Awesome! I will look into this. I dunno why I assumed it would be more trouble than that. Thanks a bunch
