Can Windshield Molding part# 73150-SLN-003 be replaced?
I have a 2008 Fit and my front windshield molding part# 73150-SLN-003 has been cracking for a few years. First it split at the 90deg corner then started to peel away from the car. I have the replacement molding but it apears that I cannot replace the molding with the windshield in place. Parts diagram appears to show that the 2nd gen Fit uses similar molding.
Does anyone know for sure if the windshield needs to be removed in order to replace this rubber molding?
Its not leaking inside the car so I might just tidy up the outside to preserve what remains of the molding with some nice silicone carefully applied to the seal/windshield (not the paint).
I found a similar window molding replacement from a BMW E39 on youtube that pretty much says "as long as the windshield is original then the molding is something you can replace (meaning its not attached with adhesive like when the windshield is replaced outside of the factory)."
Also on the online manual at Windshield Replacement the trim seems to be something you just pull out independently from the windshield meaning its not attached with adhesive:
Installing the replacement might be painful though (since the molding attaches to the thin edge of the windshield with double sided tape).
I'll keep searching. Trying to find someone who has replaced the windshield molding only seems to be tricky.
I was just cleaning the top and the bottom of that molding and was wondering if I can easily remove it and install a new one. I found a video on YouTube if a guy replacing the entire windshield. He’s pulling the molding easily but he’s putting a new molding directly on the new windshield before reinstalling the windshield on the Fit. The molding has a metal strip inside it. I doubt I can reuse it after pulling it. Did you try to reinstall a new molding?
