This post is intended for the person who has never removed the dust cap before...because if you've never done it before, you don't know what to expect. Once you've done it successfully you'll say, "Oh. That's easy."
I used a succession of screwdrivers to separate the dust cap from the hub (2010 Honda Fit, 196K miles). The trickiest part is knowing where to place the edge of the screwdriver; there's a lot of crud and oxidation obscuring where the dust cap ends and where the hub begins. I used the thinnest screwdriver to make the initial separation between the hub and the dust cap. By lightly hammering on the screwdriver around the circumference of the dust cap I was able to make a thin separation. I followed with the medium screwdriver and widened the separation. Lastly I used the thickest screwdriver to widen the separation even further. At this point the separation was wide enough for me to get enough leverage to pry the dust cap off. If your dust cap has never been removed (like mine) then it's tricky to figure out where to separate the cap from the hub. This is to give you an idea of the thickness of the dust cap "lip."
