DIY: Acura TL Switchblade Key Fob
Is this true? Can it be re-programmed at home with no expensive equipment?!?!?
Well, I got the $30 key from the guy on Amazon.com, and it's perfect! An Acura TL, OEM key. Now if I can just get it apart......
I should have openned my brain a little and did some thinking, and could have saved myself some money by going to an Acura dealer locally and bought it there! duh Just got so excited that I found it. and then I realized we have it in the first post of this thread. (part number, that is) Oh well, maybe I'll start paynig attention to things now.

is there a way to search for a certain user on there? Did the guy you got yours from have more then one?
I you take the key to the dealer, can they reprogram the immobilizer chip, or do you just HAVE TO take one out of a Fit key??
You cannot reprogram the immbolizer from the TL fob to work with the Fit.
There is a letter stamped onto the blade of the TL and Fit keys. If they were the same, then you would be able to reprogram it but they are not the same. (The TL is a 'V' but can't remember what the Fit is).
You HAVE to replace the immobilizer chip or you will not be able to start your car!!!

I have a 'V' on my fit key...
Also for anyone wondering, memory 1 and 2 are the same and the feature is only used on the TL to recognize if it's driver 1 or driver 2. Disabling the memory feature when you program the remote makes both memory 1 and 2 the same.

All of my Fit keys have an 'H' on it.
My Fit is an 07, so maybe they changed the immobilizer on the 08's??
I dunno. If that's the case, then you shouldn't have to replace the immobilizer, just get Honda to reprogram the immobilizer. No guarantees here, as if it doesn't work, Honda may still charge you!! Depends on how 'close' you are with your dealer.
I say give it a go and try it out!

So over the weekend i completed the DIY thanks to Mugen_Dom! Just some notes i'd like to add to Mugen_Dom's DIY:
1) When you get down to the three screws that are locktite'd and need to be removed. I was able to remove the two black ones without any trouble, but the silver one seems to be made of a softer material and is more proned to be stripped. So, take extra caution when removing that one. Mugen_Dom mentioned that he heated it up with a soldering iron for 5 minutes and then removed it with a power drill. I ended up cutting the head off the screw and replacing it.
2) In the DIY, when it said to take note of how the spring is positioned on the key. You should take note! I can see how it would be confusing to put back together if you didn't pay attention to how the spring was positioned when you're trying to put it back together.
3) You don't necessarily need the plastic barcode piece that came with your key to get the key cut. You just need your VIN number.
Other than that, everything else went without a hitch. The face on the guy telling me the key isn't going to work before he cut my key was priceless after i started the car with the TL key. Once again thanks to Mugen_Dom for a great DIY!

Honda cut the key for me for free so that was a deal and off I went - worked perfectly.
One thing threw me. The immobilizer chip in my 08 Fit Sport key did not match the glass tube style. In fact it was identical to the one I took out of the TL fob. This lends to the theory that if your key says "V" (mine did) you don't need to hassle with this and can get it reprogrammed. It is a flat black plastic piece, rectangular from the side and quite small. Looking at it from the side it's not quite a perfect rectangle - one end is a hair longer. The bad news is it was rather tough to get out. I had to tear away most of the plastic around it with a small needle nose pliers until I could wedge one end underneath it and break the glue. The good news is I didn't have to mess at all with drilling the chip space in the FOB because it went in perfectly.
The drill tip worked perfectly for popping out the TL chip. I used a very small 5/64 to make a hole in the surface and when I felt it break through I pulled it back out and then by hand pushed a smaller 1/16 bit though the hole and popped it out.
Good luck all!

Very interesting! I cannot find a switchblade key with FCC ID:NHVWB1U521. I am guessing you have a Base Fit with keyless? This means that base owners may do this mod. I want to do this mod because having the key separate from the keyless remote is kinda annoying.

It's a Fit LX (Canadian version), keyless is an OEM option I purchased from Bernardi Honda...
Do you have a part number for the switchblade key that you got off ebay?
Or a link?
Thanks in advance.
Any chance up re-upping the DIY pics? That would be greatly appreciated.
