fumoto: opening the valve

I recently recieved my valve in the mail.

I lift the lever but cannot turn it open... Is there something I need to do before it opens?

It's much easier to turn when it's on the car, plus it's stiff the first few times anyway. Hold the valve in a set of pliers and try it.

I just got mine today also and I can't open it. Were you able to turn the valve, SanDan?

No. I haven't done an oil change yet.

Fumoto Valve for quick oil changes. I can't turn the lever to this position... Ugh, I highly doubt that it'll be easier once it's on the car because it's not turning now.

SH!T, nevermind! I got it after some excessive force. To those who think that this thing will just pop open when a rock hits it or something think again. You have to pry this baby open.

It's easier to turn when it's on the car because you have 3500+ pounds of car holding the valve, not your hand. That's why I loosened up mine in a pair of pliers. The leverage really help. Open and close it a few times and it will be fine.

We used similar valves on racecars when I was a bit younger and dumber. They sure sped up oil changes.

If it's hard to open, take a couple drops of oil and put it on the ball-valve, and that should help a bit. It's always hardest to open them the first time.
