My weekly wash when I don't have time to do it by hand is a no touch power wash. I've tried four of them in the area, and the only one that actually does a decent job is 16 miles away.
Post away I say! I wanna see this "wreck" you spoke of...

I think I'll clean mine tomorrow morning around 6-8 am since snow is nowhere around here in MD...

Today was wash #2, had the car since 11/24.

The sad news is that after washing off the dirt I noticed my first dent, somebody opened a door into my poor Fit. I don't know when it happened because it's fairly slight and when it's dirty you couldn't see it...

Maybe I just wont wash that spot

one time

I have washed it once. I have about 1300 miles on my car. The weather has been bad ( freezing) in the south puget sound so, washing the wheel wells and glass is about the best I can do.
If you click on my signiture you will see my old fit that was totaled. Can we have a moment of silence?
My new Fit which I am speaking of is a white AT sport Fit. It looks very dirty most of the time.

It's JUST NOW snowing here in MD. There goes washing my car anytime soon... Would it be a waste of money to goto a gas station and use their car wash? Since it's snowing and there debris and sand and salt from the ground crews, won't it just get back on my car?

I'm washing mine twice a week, friday and sunday religiously. I've waxed it twice in the 2 weeks I've had it. Waxed it the day after I got it and waxed it again today because I was using a detergent that stripped away the layer of wax it had so I bought some Zymol, and some Gold Class car wash and a bottle of Quick Detailer. After the first month of ownership comes up I'm buying a clay bar to clay it for the first time. Gonna do that along with a wax once a month.

The Fit V.S. the REALLY BIG truck in my driveway

Hey.

So here are the pics of my garage being blocked by the REALLY BIG TRUCK that belongs to the guy that lives above me and has not moved since November!

He had it parked on the street for 2 months without moving it and finally got a tow warning. I was being nice and told him he could borrow the driveway as he promissed it would only be for 2 days. The thing is on empty with expired Michigan plates and barely runs. So much for being nice. The house owner claims he is moving out in March. I'd be a larger jerk about it (seeing as how I am renting the garage), but the house owner happens to also be my GF's mom and a good friend.

And this is my view every time I come home from work.

Eagerly awaiting April.

Dude - that is SO RIDICULOUS! That's being lazy and a sluggard at it's worst... reprecussions will have to occur for him to incur a need to get something taken care of...

Is it snowing in IL now?

The first week I washed my Fit every other day.
I wash it about 1-2 times a week now. I like it clean.

I'm keeping mine nice and clean also. Pretty easy to do down here in sunny Puerto Rico. No snow whatsoever, just random rain that can ruin your work.

As I already said, washing it at least once or twice a week and I"m gonna be claying and waxing it once a month, want to keep it as prestine as possible.

I just started losing sum love to it, and had to do it, even detailed the goddamn crashed part. It even looks stylish like that. Gotta love the Fit.

salt in side spoilers?

I just washed my car the other night at the firehouse, and stuck the (garden) hose under the car to spray off the salt that is all over the streets here in cincinnati (we get 1" of snow, and they put down about 2" of salt.. go figure). As i did this, i hit a 'sweet spot' and a TON of salt and sand came gushing out of the spoiler thats underneath the doors! Did the same on the other side as well. I got some also out of the wheel wells, just spraying in every direction, but the sides really seem to have a channel that holds a lot of junk up in there (and it aint junk in the trunk, lol). I have been trying to keep my cute little BOM fit as clean and sparkly as possible, but that rear end sure gets dirty quick. I made sure, when I bought the car, that I was to get free car washes from the dealer, since I drive by there all the time. Their little car wash there does an ok job, but doesnt dry it, and always misses 2 spots (right beneath the rear window spoiler, and the drivers side rearview mirror), but its all good because at least its free and quick That daggone spot below the rear window spoiler is a pain to reach even with my hands, and when I rain-x the windows too. STill working on a solution to that one.

I noticed that too the first time I washed my Fit... it's been on and off snow here in MD, and the sand and salt on the road still accumulates on my car... so even when I wash it, it'll be bound for dirt-dom.

Anyone notice how the back and certain areas of the side get dirty easily?

Also, I'm having a hard time with my window spray cleaner getting my windsheild, mirrors and other windows sparkling....

I tried the newspaper thing, but I don't think i did it well..

Thanks for pointing this out. The trapped salt and chemicals sure could cause rust, eventually. Could you be a bit more specific about where the sweet spot is? I can't figure out how to aim a hose to get in behind the under spoilers without laying on the ground, which would be ok if the floor of the car wash weren't so full of slush and mud.

'sweet spot' for nasty stuff underneath

i will do my best and hope you can figure this out you have to lay on the ground, or squat waaaay down if you are flexible enough... if you are squatting down, you have to stick your hand up underneath the side of the car, underneath the back door, and aim it upwards, almost like you are trying to squirt yourself in the face.. and keep moving the water toward the front door, and back again. I hope this makes sense lol, the guys at work asked if i was trying to do a contortionist act or something.

Oh, and to the guys in PR... soy una bombera One of the plates I considered getting on my car was BOMbera, lol, although nobody would understand what the funny part was (my car is the BOM color). of course, my kids think I am the biggest nerd for thinking that is funny

Washing your Fit in the winter and those pesky Automatic Car Washes...

Hey fellas,

I've been posting a bunch of newbie questions tonight, but that's simply because it's my first time trying to maintain a brand new car. So I apologize in advance. Anyway, for those that live in cold climates, how do you wash your car...or do you even wash your car at all? Where I live, there is a public indoor car wash that I have yet to try. I don't know how warm it is inside, but I'd have to assume you are able to wax your car in there with minimal fuss.

Second question, for those that live where the roads are salty. Do you bother washing the underside and wheel wells? If so, what is your best method to maximize salt removal?

And finally, aren't pressure washers/hoses bad for the car's paint? This is in reference to automatic car washers (ie. touchless types), the ones you buy at the local auto store, and the ones you use in a public wash bay.

Thanks-a-bunch

I've been using the coin operated wash only to fight the buildup of ice in the wheel wells, on the underbody behind each wheel, and the wheels themselves. I've found that ice forms on the inside surface of the wheels and causes bad vibrations as it is so far out of balance. The automatic car wash will not help much with this.
