IMO, I think that washing the underside of the car and the wheel wells is more important than washing the painted portions of the car. I've owned about a dozen Hondas over the last 14 years and by religiously cleaning the underside of road salt in the winter I've avoided the typical rust most Hondas get. It also helps keep all the fasteners under the car from seizing up and being a PIA when doing maintenance and modifications.

As long as you don't have any chips in the paint on the outside surfaces of the car you shouldn't get any rust where you'll see it. Since the underside of the car gets bombarded by all kinds of road debris it will be chipped up and prone to rusting in no time.

Thanks. I didn't think about it that way.

Just Buff It Out. When It Rains It'll Just Bead Off.

You can use water and dish soap like Dawn to take off wax.

Windex or another cleaner with ammonia should also remove the wax. Bizzle probably has the best idea. Free Rain-X, basically.

You can also use windshield polish from pepboys, its
a very fine abrasive for glass. It will leave your windshield
crystal clear.

Same here. I even do the inside of my side windows with wax. Fingerprints and smudges just wipe away then.

Best way to dry after washing?

Is chamois still the best way to dry? I keep hearing microfiber cloths are good for the newer paints. I have a couple of deeper scratches (unknown origin) and a chip in the paint. Any tricks for using the touchup paint so it covers well?

Best way to dry is to use a leaf blower.

You can also use the Mr. Clean washer kit. The last stage uses a PUR filter. Since there are no minerals there is no need to dry the car. It will air dry without water spots.

i used to use the Mr. clean, but still dried the car using an "absorber" synthetic chamois.

Meguiars Water Magnet, it absorbs lots of the water, and never caused any swirls on my cars.

Thanks -- I'm a fan of Meguire's products, so I'll look for Water Magnet. Target doesn't have it, so I'll try the auto specialty stores.

I use the Mr. Clean Autodry, then blow off the majority of the water with a leaf blower, so it dries quicker.

i have a good sized MicroFiber Towel to dry a majority of the water then use my smaller microfiber detail towels to pick up the rest.

never scratched/swirled paint so i cant complain.

How to clean mystery white flakes and powder

I went through the cheap auto car wash at the gas station and now there are white flakes and powder over several different areas of the car. I originally thought it was dried up soap. It does not wash off and I might have to scrape it off. My friend thinks it is the hard water residue. I have never seen this on any other car. I thought it might be sap, but it is not sticky. Any idea of how to clean it off without having to scrape large areas of the car?

Thanks in advance. I LOVE Fitfreak.net!

Do NOT scrape anything off. My old Evo 9 was caught in a storm of overspray from the house next to me painting their house with a spray gun :| Go to any parts store and pick up Mother's Clay Bar or pick up Clay Magic. It will take a couple of hours to do the whole car but it will get whatever is on there off, be it on the paint, the glass, whatever. Good luck and don't go scraping anything.

Too many car washes?

Is there any negative effects as to washing you car once a week?
