Currently i'm using synthetic and change every 7k miles. I drive 20k miles a year, so i'm consider changing every 10k miles -- twice a year.

The manual says 10k miles for regular dino oil. I think 10k for synthetic is safe. What are your thoughts?

 

Used oil analysis. No need for gut feelings.

 

Is there that much of a variation between other fits?

 

Probably not, but do you really want to trust invisible people on the internet to tell you what is safe to do? I mean I could tell you, yeah, sure, it's probably safe (for synthetic) but what does that get you? Do I know what I'm talking about? Unclear

The Fit's maintenance minder will also tell you how often to do it - the advice to just go by that is not likely to be wrong.

 

If you want the best guess from a large group analysis, you'll follow the MM. If you want info tailored to your car, you'll go with the used oil analysis.

For me, I go 1 year or 10k in both my hondas, regardless of conventional or synthetic (currently running 0w-20 honda semi synthetic), and UOA says its fine. But personally I'd trust either the car maker or lab tests well before I'd trust the opinion of a bunch of message board posters. Especially since the only way they can be getting reliable info for their opinions is either the manufacturer's recommendations or lab tests.

Follow the maintenance minder or one year.

 

Do what you feel is the best for the car. If you feel comfortable with 10K change is good enough for you, then it's good enough for you. If you're not so sure, either go for oil analysis or do another change. It's a cheap enough way to get a peace of mind.

Some basics on the MM:

The maintenance minder (MM) is supposed to figure out how much life is left in the oil, but it's calculation is based on various parameters related to your driving profile, and NOT based on the actual state of the oil. For example, whether you poured in dino oil, synthetic oil, or left the used contaminated oil in the oil pan as is and reset the MM, the MM will indicate that you have exactly the same oil life left for all three cases as you drive until the next MM reminder.

 

If the bulk of your miles are highway then I would not be that worried about using synthetic to 10k.
