whats this rubber thing?

Whats the rubber thing on the upper transmission mount in front of the battery??? It swings around the middle.

Its soft, doesn't seem to have a purpose.it doesn't go through out motor mount. it just sits there on the outside, either to the left or to the right. not sure why our motor mounts have this. surely it has a purpose.

Somewhere in Japan an engineer is laughing at us because we think it has a purpose but really he was just timing it to see how long someone asked "What is this thing?"
