back door will not open
back door will not open
My back door will no longer open.
The back door handle does not move smoothly. For a while, I've been able to open it after repeatedly unlocking it. That no longer does the trick.
It seems to me that the problem is probably related to being able to get it unlocked.
Any advice is most welcome! Thanks...

Is this only from the inside, or both inside and outside? Have you tried moving the lock lever manually, or just using the power locks?
If it's only the inside handle, check the child safety switch thingy on the door latch on the edge of the door. It may have gotten partly bumped to the "child" position (which disables the interior door handles entirely).
If it works properly with the locks being moved manually, there's something binding the power locks. If the lock tab doesn't move manually well, there's something binding the lock mechanism. In either case, I'd imagine you'd have to take the interior panel off the door and poke around at the mechanism to see what's up. (Actually, that's probably true regardless, assuming it's not the child lock thing.)
Car door lock linkages are not generally all that complicated; usually problems are fairly straightforward to figure out by looking things over if you're mechanically inclined. I haven't looked at the Fit's in particular, though.

The hatch latch gets crusty rusty. Remove hatch door inner panel. Unbolt
latching mechanism & soak in vinegar for a week. Grease generously. You can use the cable to unlatch the door while pickling the rusted part. In the two I have done only the outside handle had rusted but the rest of the linkage was fine .

You may have to get law enforcement to unlock the door with jimmies; then remove the inner panel and repair the latching and locking mechanisms yourself or take it to a competent bodyshop. it may even be a dealer.
The way I read it, it is the exterior rear hatchback door. or maybe it's just because I have also had the hatch lock mechanism just needed some grease. but it interest, having the child safety dinggee "on" will that prevent the rear hatch from unlocking.
But when were talking the greasing , did you just put a dab on either side of the exterior hatch handle. or does the interior cover have to be removed.?
and too... Rollerboots666 Thanks for the Laugh. ( Thank you god for Cannabis Oil

No. The child safety thingamabob is only part of the individual side door latch mechanisms, and only disables the inside door handle. The general idea is to prevent small children who don't know better from opening the door while the car is in motion. Since there's no inside door handle on the hatch, and even if there was there shouldn't be any children riding back there, it's not necessary to have the device.
