Exclamation 2007 Fit Throttle body cleaning (quick type)

My version of throttle body cleaning (you may also consider it to be a bad parody on Eric the Car Guy videos)

what are some symptoms of the car when one doesn't clean their throttle body?

The hot idle could be too low after battery change.
As the carbon builds up the engine computer corrects (increases) the closed throttle angle to maintain the proper idle RPM; if memory is reset (by disconnecting battery), the closed angle will return to default setting, causing incorrect (low) idle speed when hot. It will require idle re-learn procedure to teach the computer.
In my case the amount of deposits was very minimal.

I've had the idle be too HIGH after cleaning the TB.

Eventually, the computer learns it though. But it can take a week or more.

Much easier to do the ILP (Idle Learn Procedure) after cleaning.

after cleaning and doing the ILP what should the rpms be sitting at? full operating temperature no accessories running?

mine is around 865 rpms at .8L per hour

860 is OK in neutral, might be 50 rpm high. Spec idle is on the sticker on the hood IIRC.

A little high is OK, it will fine-tune itself over the next few drive cycles especially if it is idled in neutral for 5 minutes or more.

IMO, cleaning the TB every couple years is good preventative maintenance. The dirt gets to a certain point then WHAM your idle goes funky. (Usually during rain or a snowstorm, LOL)

BTW the air filter element replacement has to be followed by idle re-learn procedure (???) according to service manual instruction found at Auto repair reference center (on EBSCO host). I've (and almost everyone ) never done that!
