Question L13A Turbo?

I've got a lot of questions to ask about the Honda Jazz/Fit L13A engines... I am a fit owner myself. I got a 1.3 M/T and i wanted to know about some stuff. First of all, what do you think about having a turbo kit installed?
Can the stock pistons, intake manifold handle the pressure of F.I.? or will this go up in flames? (kaboom?!!! perhaps?) Do you need an emanage to control fueling and air?

Nobody on this side of the pond (North America) will know since we only have the L15. I wish you luck in your quest for more power though.

Hi. I have a turbo 1.3 M/T Jazz for 2 years now.

Yes you can use the stock pistons and intake manifold. I know somebody that runs 12psi of boost with this set-up. I run about 7 psi myself.

Yes, I believe you can use emanage to control fueling. I have a piggyback that controls a 5th injector.

Thanks.

Hey ken1279

Did your fit encounter any problems running with the turbo? i.e. gasket leaks, engine trouble/failure or overheating? What did you use exactly in your setup? If you don't mind me asking... I just want to be safe coz i heard honda engines are prone to blowing up...

Where did you hear that from? Sounds like someone didn't know what they were talking about. Any engine will be prone to blowing up without properly building it and correctly tuning it. Its all about the tune and how realistic your setup is. If you're aiming for 250 whp with your L13 and stock internals, yes, your engine will blow up. But if you're shooting for 140 whp or something like that, then you could reach that goal, and with good tuning it could be very street-able.

You can turbo your L13 and daily drive it, just make sure you get someone to build it who knows what they're doing and has some experience.

Fit turbo

Thanks for the info guys. One last question, is there any bolt on turbo kits available for a L13A engine? This will definitely make my life easier... Or do i have to do a custom job on my fit to make it run on FI (forced induction) ?

Kits are the same as for L-15a Vtec engines. But beware of running excess boost as someone in your country MELTED his stock intake manifold from excess boost resulting in catastrophic damage. There is a post on fitfreak with the story and photos of the highly damaged intake manifold.

I think I know the guy you mentioned and he did not install a turbo. He had a Nitrous system (dry type).

The engine block uses the same parts as the L-15a Vtec (except for displacement) so any mods you have read about that don't cause the L-15a Vtec model to blow up will work just as well on your L-13. You could use a kit for the L-15a Vtec on your ISDI BUT the ECU controller will have to be adjusted for your ISDI not the Vtec specs for fuel and ignition advance, and the boost will have to be controlled because of the smaller displacement.

And the photos here on Fitfreak of the melted intake were from Turbo use not Nitrous.

Lightbulb Thanks

Hi. Thanks to all of you for helping out in this simple project of mine. it seems so difficult to to put some power into a 1.3l honda engine... (since i came from a nissan with an sr20det) guess i'll just have to do a custom turbo kit on it and see what happens... By e way, any ideas on e type of turbine i should use to get the most power & torque? Was thinking of a t25...

Keep me posted on this as I'm gonna be looking into similar process soon on my UK L13. 90bhp sucks after a DC2 ITR and SR20DET and thats just the wife's opinion!!!
