Replacing Fuel Filter GD3

Im debating about doing this. I have 168,000km on my motor. I am getting crappy mileage. I do not get 500km on a tank. I just got 480 almost all highway. I'm thinking about replacing my fuel filter. Is it worth it? I know how to get the fuel pump out. Remove the centre console e brake etc. pull out the pump. Filter is built into the pump. My question is how do you get the filter off the whole pump contraption? I can't find any pics for it. Is it worth it before I try this? I want to do it before winter. Improve gas mileage. Make a DIY and a video DIY for YouTube. But first of all I want to make sure I need to do this before I take out the pump and stare at it for hours trying to figure out how to remove the filter.

The fuel filter filters fuel and has nothing to do with engine efficiency. A clogged filter will probably kill your engine and send some codes so if that's not happening it's not the problem. Change plugs, coil packs if your engine stutters, and maybe adjust valve tappets if they're noisy, air filter, check tire pressure...

Not having any engine light or codes. Spark plugs were replaced in April or May. Air filter still looks brand new. I'm guessing it has to be either my tire pressure or valve adjustment then.
