Door Handles. Cheap?

I dont know if this has crossed anyone elses mind; maybe I just think about weird things?

Probably one of the most used pieces on a car is the door handle. Recently Ive been wondering how strong the Fit door handles are. I mean think about it; you pull up and out with a good amount of force. It doesnt take much to open out little doors but its nature to pull up on the handle quick and give a decent amount of force outward/towards you.

After noticing that I thought of the 2nd gen Eclipse. A few of my friends have them. The door handles are VERY known to break off because the weight of the doors.

You think the Fit handle would ever do that? That would really suck later on down the road having to replace and paint a door handle.

Since I thought of this I open my doors all slow and gentle. hahah! I advise you all to do the same. Remember, its just plastic.

Nah it's fine.

I've had loads of my friend's jerking at the door handles when I've raced 'em to the car and lock the doors.

They end up yanking at the door handles and just keep pulling at it. They'll be fine.

haha, i have never heard of this. I worked in the parts dept at nissan for a year or so and while I would sell 2-3 mirrors/mirror caps and fuel door lids (i dont even want to know about that one) a week, I dont think I ever sold an exterior door handle.

Also, through my 7 years of being into hondas and cars in general, I have never once heard of this happening to anyone, not even my weird dsm loving friends.

<~~~~~Colin, who says "if the door doesn't open, dont try harder, unlock it!!"

i don't think you need to worry about that too much. just as long as you're not pulling with all your strength everytime you open the door. my family has 5 hondas, 3 from the early 90s and handles have never broken. and all plastic too, i think most car makes have plastic door handles right?

Mine broke on my '86 Accord..

My Accord handle (not plastic) broke a few months ago.
I think the main reason (other than the obvious extensive use) was that the Honda doors seal so well.
My problem was compounded further in the winter when you get that nice coat of frozen ice around the door seal.
So, by the time yours breaks (if ever..), you could probably go to the boneyard and pick one up off a wrecker..

Although the Fit is great, it is not built like a 4000 lbs tank... be gentle, and it should last the vehicle's lifetime. I hate it when the handle slips out of my hand, and it goes ka-whack!! Yeah here in CA... what's this "ice" you speak of on your vehicle?
