But then again I've seen some fit towing trailers full of heavy stuff. I know it can be done but I still have a warranty on mine and I'd rather not void it. Best way to be sure would probably be to talk to a dealer. That's what I was going to do but I got a very good deal on a roof rack so I went with that.

The better version looks like this:

They cost more and they also weight more but they have life time warranties. Some people who used the smaller versions told me they fall appart after 2-3 years so they are a temporary investment at best. If you carry a 200$ walmart bike you might not care but some people spend 10k$+ for a bike. Anyway, If I had a 10k$ bike I'd probably get a big enough truck to store them inside or a car that can tow more and buy a locked trailer.
correct that the rack I have weighs less than the Yakima...one of the reasons I went for it. It's built well and seriously doubt it'll fall apart. Simple design without frills keeps it light, not junky hardware. A friend bought the Yakima and though nice and more features, a bit of hassle when folded up with the plastic trays. They hit his bumper, so we had to shave 'em down.

The hitch receiver is barely noticeable when the rack isn't mounted as it's 1.25 inch and I bolted it on in about 10 minutes...so it can also come off it you get a roof setup. I've done roof setups on many cars, and found them to be a hassle, didn't like the wind resistance and noise and typically would mar the paint. I've got a great Yakima setup for a volvo wagon if anyone wants it...collecting cobwebs on the side yard.

And the bike doesn't weigh 25 pounds....24.7 actually

The fairing that a have is 44'' I guess you could go bigger if you wanted, but to me any bigger would look to cumbersome. This size stops all the noise from wind turbulance and helps with fuel mileage, aerodynamically speaking

My friend gave me his Saris rack with clips for his Honda Insight, and I got it to work on my Honda fit without issue. He had the Saris bike racks for it as well. I was able to use the Yakima board rack as well. The Saris base plates seem to apply even load to the roof. The only issue so far is the wind deflector rubber gasket rubbed on the paint, so I have to polish that off.

try going online and configure one for the Jazz/Fit... if my memory serves me right, its a 38" visor for the Jazz/Fit (GE, btw)....

btw, since a Thule costs a lot here, i got a cheaper one... costs 1/3 of a Thule... the brand is Travel Life... its being carried by a reputable bike shop here so i pulled the trigger on it... will just upgrade my bike with the money im spending supposedly on a Thule... lol

Craigslist is fantastic for getting a roof rack for cheap. You can score one for $150- $250. I still need some Q5 clips and I can mount my Yakima rack. Mine was $150 for the towers, bars, and 2 bike trays. I plan on getting a small roof box for family trips since the dog takes up most of the back area.

pretty much. You just need to buy the Q towers and some other accessories like SRS locks for the Q tower so no one steals the roof rack and a fairing so you don't hear wind noise and kill your mpg.

Swagman xtc for my hidden hitch, love it. Even fits a fat bike without any problems. Wife has a roof rack on her subaru, hate it.
