Is the FIT right for me?
Ah ok - so nothing really major it seems. I like to know a lot about the cars I have and don't mind adjusting them at all and making modifications if I have extra money. I'm not a speed freak, but if new shocks will make the ride smoother or something to make the car more fuel efficient, I'll probably do that eventually.
Any idea on how many miles I should expect an engine to get? I'm seeing used ones for a good price with about 50-60k miles on them.

Forged wheels are really, really expensive though.
Lightweight cast wheels are a good substitute - Enkei RPF1s are a favorite among many of us here.
I went to a dealership to look at a fit today and was happy with how the rear seats folded down, but surprised that the front seats didn't have more "magic" of their own to make for more space when they're not needed. Aiming at the idea of not needing the passenger seat or sleeping in the car. Oh well. Still a pretty nice little auto.
I am sort of underwhelmed by the gas mileage the fit gets. But I suppose a 30 mpg car is better than my 15mpg jeep but a 40mpg hybrid or diesel might be better if I'm getting the small car thing anyway. I wasn't impressed enough with the space provided by putting down the rear seat that it made me want to buy the fit and only the fit.

I get 30-33 mpg in town with traffic and stop lights. On the highway, it's closer to 40 mpg. I got the Fit to replace my 95 Subaru for most of my driving needs. The mpg is a great improvement over the 19- 22 mpg my Subie got. For it's size, the Fit has amazing storage capacity & versatility. I still kept my Subaru for hauling longer items.
