I used to live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. And let me tell you, driving through places like Busse Woods on Higgins Rd in Arlington Hgts/Schaumburg used to scare the crap out of me. I've seen so many deer cross and chill by the sides of the roads at night. And it's not just deer. There are opossums, raccoons, and foxes.

You also have to worry about the dead ones too. One time I was driving in my lowered EK behind some lady in a BMW 3series. Most people would have the sense of swerving out of the way to avoid running over road kill but this woman didn't. She ran over it and I ended up hitting it too. It was a huge dead raccoon and I didn't have a chance to swerve because the road is pitch dark. Anyhow it ended up getting stuck underneath my car and I dragged it for a while. I tried swerving side to side to dislodge it and it worked but not before leaving a huge mess. so freaking gross. Went straight to the self car wash to powerwash all the fur, blood, and guts.

Anyway the point is having more lights is definitely a plus unless you're blinding someone. But I've noticed that the Fit fog lights has a nice cut-off when I changed the bulbs to yellow. I tried walking 15-20 yards out in front of the car and crotch down to see if it blinds me but to no avail. I tried it at different angles with the same results. So I think it's fine to run fog lights on the Fit all the time.

Also has anyone considered the weight distribution in their cars? I noticed having even 50lbs in the cargo area causes the car to squat which in turn aims headlights and fog light slightly angled up. I know the UK Fits come with adjustable head light features to address these issues. So next time consider this when you come across a jackass with brights on. They may not have their brights on and are unknowingly blinding people because they have car full of passengers.

oh my god...i swear there should be another section on here just for people from california to post in...whats ironic is that you dont even have foglights on your car but you are telling other people how to use theirs. do you not feel like a tool driving around in your base model? "HEY! I GOT A BASE MODEL! LOOK AT ME. I WISH I HAD A SPORT MODEL NOW!!!!!

If you dont like your fog lights on, then turn them off. I drive with mine on when my headlights are on so deal with it. I am blinded more by the HID type lights - and they are always mis-aligned.

I also dont want to hit a deer. I know they are sitting in the woods just plotting which car to run in front of...

Oh there are TONS of deer here. Plus, it's not like you can shoot them, because you'll go to jail for longer than shooting a person.

We have a lot of restrictions with regards to preserving open space. Basically, if you drive through the areas where people build the nicest houses, you'll end up in deer country.

Wow, to the op, you are so unaware of what you are talking about its not funny. Oem fog lights use the same style cutoff shield as the headlights, example take your base model fit and park about 15 feet in front of a wall and turn your headlights on, see the line that the light creates? When someone with OEM fogs does the same thing there is a second cutoff line about 1-15" off the ground, hence not possible to blind someone, and just for you I'll make sure to use my fog lights everytime I get in the car, I may even take the time to rewire them so I don't need headlights

I have yet ever to be blinded by fog lights unless the person who has installed them had no idea what they are doing and aimed them up instead of down at the road.

Fog lights should be aimed DOWN towards the ground to illuminate the road lines and objets, generally they are yellow and the different color should give you better depth perception. If you aim them up the light would simply bounce back and blind you in fog which would make them useless.

When I travelled more I used to hit bad snow storms and thick fog fairly frequently, I would turn my main headlamps off and only use the foggies with parking lights in order to gain visibility (I am talking about thick stuff you can't see more than 15 feet in) For those of you that are starting to freak out about turning you headlamps off please be aware under these conditions using your headlamps actually reduce your visibility and you wouldn't be able to see the road. Without the use of fog lights you might as well pull over and park or you are putting yourself and others at risk.
I also want to point out I used REAL fog lights designed for these types of conditions and used signifigently reduced speed in these situations.

I have a much bigger problem with people who drive with thier high beams on around the city because they feel it is safer, and also with those who don't correctly aim thier headlights.

Bottom line: the Honda Fit factory foggies shouldn't be an issue if you drive with them on. They are aimed correctly, they can't be more than 4 inches from the ground.... the only thing that would be a factor is if you drive a base model and it makes you fume because you wer too cheap to opt up and you think people are showing off... you have a better chance of being blinded by a broken tail lamp than stock foggies. I don't know why they are not yellow... I would classify them the same as driving lights and encourage people to use them all the time as a way to make your car more visible.

I would like to see some more reasoning besides..."deer"..."cutoff"....and well "other" things are worse...

I dont indeed think of the fogs on the Fit as a big deal but...
they do add significanlty to the general ouput and general diffusion of light congestion, and if not then why are people using them?

I used to do quick experiments in the fog without headlights in relatively safe places (still pretty dumb) and you can see very well in terms of distance compared to driving with them on and much better than brights! (duh) But no one else would see me!
With fogs the ability to better disperse light under the most dense part of fog is useful, but mostly to the individual using them...others can see you better to a degree some of the time but not if you turn of your "HEADLIGHTS" off!"(YIKES!!!) ....like what if you are heading up or down or in a dip, or there is a slight rise in the road ahead? Then others visibility of you drastically diminishes.

the fit is kinda sexy with them on but I wont use them unless necessary, "fog" or as "aux's" when visibility is really "poor" and the use of "brights" would be a dristraction, illegal, or...not a good idea...

If people say they are useless, then how does it help with others visibility of you...especially since most side view mirrors are not aimed or do not eminate for use by "earthworms" I still love that one

I dont recall the last time an earthworm "warned" me of something....except maybe the presence of pollution.......But....then again they use earthworms now to clean up toxic soil....so....um...nevermind!

FITFREAKERS have a great sense of humor

True, but 1 or even 50000000000 people are not going to stop others from driving with their foglights on.
Im pretty sure theres no law on driving with the foglights on with/without fog, day, night, rain, earthquake, worms, doesnt matter.

Even people driving with high beams on RARELY get ticketed. And I see it all the time. Also people with cheap HID kits installed in old reflective headlights causing massive glare barely get tickets.

Those talking about foglights and height adjustments. With your car pointing against a wall IMO, the cut off from foglights should be 4-6in off the ground. They dont have to be any higher because the design of foglight housings are not spectacular and do not give out awesome light. So adjusting them up wont increase how far they shine. You may think it will but its not. Youre just causing glare and glare does give you the illusion of making more light.

Brings me to my next thing. Installing HID's in foglights is dumb. Foglights do not have big housings. Installing a high powered bulb is just going to cause massive glare. Of course its going to put extra light on the road but if it was a good idea it would be offered by car manufactures.
I cant think of any company that has HID fogs factory. Ill just say an exception of 1.

To the person that made this thread about why people drive with them on during the day and without fog..... Put it this way; I payed extra for them, Im going to use em! Hahaha, I just noticed theyre even on in my sig pic.

I think people that pay extra for lighting packages, safety packages, higher models that do feature foglights on the cars and they DONT use them idiots. Its like paying extra for sunroof and never opening it.

The post about the wall had nothing to do with adjusting them, it was to show the op that the foglights have a cutoff and that there is no way to blind someone with foglights unless they are improperly aimed!!

Is the majority of this board really this dense?

i think it's worse when people are driving at night or in the rain with the headlights off.

<---- drives with headlights and fog lights on all the time.

Meaning the light output is going to be basically just above your ankles and LOWER. I wasnt stating HOW to adjust them. Just saying how high they should be. I just happen to use a wall to show the cut off.

Unless the foglights were installed upside down the light output is distributed from the cutoff DOWN. Are you dense?
And there is a way to blind people with foglights without them being improperly adjusted.
1. Adding an HID kit
2. Removing glare shields

Fog Light Rant

From the Honda Fit Brochure : "And go with the fog lights for added visibility"

They are for that exactly, added visibility, so you can see better (than with just the headlights).

Can you see more of the road, without blinding other drivers, and look cool at the same time ?

Yes, you can.

So if you're meant to drive around with them on, then why do they call them FOG lights?

As to the speculation about me being jealous of fog lights, I've had them on many cars. Very rarely have I ever used them, nor have had the legitimate need to.

And over-driving your headlights doesn't count as legitimate.

blinding and higher output are different... yet there still can be a contribution to the same problem...

I just stood outside in my driveway in socal clear weather....with properly aimed fogs looking at my car from about 20ish feet away and the extra diffused output was SIGNIFICANT(as in I am much more uncomfortable, and less able to see general detal). I am not only just a teensy bit taller than an earth worm (@ 6'2")...but I am also taller than most seating positions....

As far as saying that people here may be "dense"....I will only say no more than anywhere else...there is no need to say that....

When there is fog...right? Thats what you meant...right?
As the add may have nothing to do with it being promoted to be used all the time...It even looks stylin when not on too...and stylin when they are needed....

like LED ultra bright brake lights...for added "visibility" they add visibility when they are needed....HAAAHAAAA...but I wouldnt lit em up to look cool....haahaaheeeheehe!!! I thought that was funny...
