I've been looking at single-DIN units with a retractable video screen. Not only would it be less flashy (and less tempting to break in and steal), but with a single-DIN faceplate, I would get that extra (small) storage space underneath. But a problem I foresee with this type of unit is that the screen would pop up right in front of the center air vents. This would both block the airflow, but if I have the heater on, couldn't that potentially damage the unit?

Does anyone have this type of unit? Are there any workarounds to being directly in front of the air vents?

 

you can install the pocket on the upper section and install the unit on the bottom. You lose access to the extra storage pocket when the screen is up, but it will clear your vents
