Amp Power/Ground Problem

Hello people
If I've posted in the wrong place, please move this elsewhere...

I have a Honda Jazz SE Sport 1.4 litre 2002

I'm having an absolute nightmare installing my sub and amp in this car.
I have run the power cable from the battery to the amp
I ran a ground cable to a bolt on the bottom right side of the boot (has a mini metal handle on it)
Remote lead is in place everything is ready to go, fuses and all.

I turn on the headunit and I get slight hiss from speakers and very very low noise from subwoofer. With engine on, I get small engine sound.

But, if I turn the amp up to about 1/6th the volume, I suddenly get power spike sounds and the sub starts grunting?!

I haven't seen anyone on the forum with my problem.
I have a Kenwood KAC PS100 amp set up bridged to a JL Audio sub 12 inch supposedly 300 watts but don't know the model name.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be? All the cables are secure - I've tried different ground points with the same results. When the amp is set really low, I get no grunting or anything - if it goes up marginally, it goes berserk.

recheck all your connections.. i remember one time i had hooked up the crossover to my fronts wrong.. had the full going to the tweeter.. and tweeter to the full.. i know your's is only the sub.. but still double check your rca's if it's coming from the head unit..and check if you have it bridged correctly.. ?? emmh only possibilities is bad amp, sub, or rca's?? i would guess the amp?? but really couldn't say without switching some stuff out..

Did you run your RCA cables from the head unit to your amp with the power cable? I forgot the technical name of it but the power cable will send signals and the rca will pick it up and play it through the sub as a humming noise. Try running your RCA cable on one side of the car and the power cable on the other.

No I haven't.

The RCA cables run down the drivers side along with the remote lead and the power cable runs along the passenger side.

I recently replaced the 10 guage wire with 8 guage wire.

I have grounded the amp to the driver side bolt next to the flap that covers the spare wheel. There's one either side going down into the bottom.

I still hear noise and if the gain is turned up, the sub will just go crazy farting etc.

I've kinda solved the issue by having the gain much much lower and then cranking everything on my headunit up.

Pioneer DEH-30MP has fair number of bass alterations (+6 LPF, +6 under 100hz and +6 defined EQ setting)

With the new alteration, the bass is way way cleaner.

Previously, basslines used to overtake all the music. Now the kicks are much louder and the basslines quieter which makes for a better combination - maybe the gain on the amp was kinda clipping the signal, so now I have more headroom than before.

Like I said, the noise is still there and the reduction in gain means certain music that is mixed with less bass usually sounds dead as I can't turn the bass up further.
