Hack a Physical Volume Knob onto my 2015EX
Prefaces
- I apologize if a similar thread exists. I've tried to find it without luck.
- I know I should be able to use the controls on the wheel and the touchscreen. They bother me irrationally, so please don't just suggest I deal with it.
Question
- Does anyone know how he would start going about figuring out how to hack a secondary volume control onto the stereo? IE how does the steering wheel volume control work? Is there some data bus I might attach to somewhere? Figure out how it's written to and simulate whatever the steering wheel controls are doing? Are there any USB-connected devices that can do this sort of thing?
Thanks very much.

Sorry, but no one has done such a mod, and the steering wheel controls are not that bad. It depends how electronically skilled and how much patience you have. If that doesn't apply to you I'm afraid you will have to deal with it, or change out the HU and lose the Lanewatch and backup camera functions.
The steering remote is 4 wires to the HU. My thought is with a rotary encoder and possible arduino board to translate the encoder signal to the volume up and down. I personally use the steering wheel controls almost exclusively. The touch screen volume works, but if your hands are dry forget it it barely works.
